For about 2 years i've been trying to get some sort of diagnosis for BPD and they always extend it
"Take these meds" "Have you tried ____?"

I just want to be diagnosed so i can feel like my mental illness is valid yet they always offer everything but the diagnosis
And without a diagnosis i can't get help

For what it's worth, I was never 'told' my diagnosis when I was seeing a psychiatrist.
It was only when I asked for a written statement that I could show to my university that I was struggling with mental illness that I found out I had "MDD with psychotic features".

i've had this struggle too. my therapist and psych are focused on that i'm having my symptoms treated, and think that that's all that should matter. it used to be MDD, GAD, and ADHD but it's changed apparently. i'm able to see my psych's notes online and all he has is "depression unspecified" and "trauma and stressor related disorder" which is... not a diagnosis and doesn't help me. i hope you're able to get more information--i know my provider's need a diagnosis in order to bill my insurance (even if it's just "depression unspecified") but maybe that could be a way to find something out? not sure.

Well, if you're in the USA at least, a lot of insurance companies require psychiatrists/basically any sort of mental health professional who see you for 1 or more sessions to give you some kind of diagnosis. And you always have the right to request your case file/specific diagnosis used to bill insurance. I wonder if they have diagnosed with you with bpd already, perhaps? It might also be helpful to explain that you find comfort in that diagnosis, and knowing there's a diagnosis that quite accurately explains your symptoms, so that they're more inclined to assess you for it if they haven't already
