It would take more than 5 minutes. While you would pass out very quickly, with partial hanging it would take 20-30 minutes before you are fully dead. If you are found and resuscitated before then it could lead to permanent brain damage. I know life can be so painful but getting caught before you are fully dead would surely make it worse. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you've thought through it and won't be interrupted.

I would imagine so, as the rope would be much more uniform and could be lubricated with something like soap to slide easier. I can't imagine a bundled bedsheet working all that well for a partial hanging, although it could still be possible.
