Can you have no gf/bf and not be lonely?

I am chatting to some people in here and like me they have no romantic partner.
But they say they are not lonely.
I don't believe that.
I think wanting a romantic partner is a natural instinct that we have as humans.
Like feeling hungry.
I don't think we can ignore it.
We are not solitary creatures like snakes or sharks that can live alone.
I wish I was born a shark for instance, then I wouldn't feel lonely for not having a gf.

Theres a downside and upside to everything.

but the benefit is you got company, support and joy but sometimes when theres a conflict you get stress too

The thing is after a while the sex between men and women usually becomes boring and routine but initially it can be a lot of fun.
I completely understand where you're coming from @Busticket. Even at my rather advanced age of 61, I think about women all the time. It never ends until we are in the grave.

Bipolar and psychosis. During my manic phase the girl said she cannot love me I think I was too career oriented (but when I am manic I am always like that.) With two other girls I went psychotic (paranoid) and frightend them. This broke my heart. I really could imagined a future with one of them. But because I am such a monster/ freak she refused me. :(

I had one bf in my life and still felt lonely. It isn't truly the cure for loneliness. Also even after I felt like crap for breaking up with them because I brought them into my issues. I'm just traumatized and miserable so there is no reason to date and bring others into my misery although I do want something romantic I just don't think it will ever happen because of my trauma, looks, social skills

I think some people can be happy without it, but not everyone. I have tried so desperately to be happy alone, but I can't cut out the biological need I feel I have for human connection. But when you're simply not compatible with other people, what else can I do? I can't force people to like me.

For sure there are some poeple who may not be lonely without a gf/bf/soulmate etc.

However there are many people who find it impossible to fight this feeling without anybody close to them... I mean, some of us (I mean as people in general, not only us from this forum) might have friends, but without someone who can be really close to you their solitude might be unbearable, especially if they can't rely on anybody despite of knowing some people.

In my case I think I've been longing for relationships mostly because of many bad things that happened in my life, but I'm sure It would be completely different in more positive scenarios, where my life wouldn't be so shattered.
While you have a bit different opinion, I believe you may be right too. Being a social animal without "social" parts might be unbearable.
