I think we can acknowledge that the negatives in life outweigh the positives, and we have no control over what choices someone chooses when it comes to their life.

At the end of the day, you are not that person, and they are not you, you have no way of knowing or understanding what they went through and what they continue to go through.

Nobody asked to be born into a life where they have to do well enough in school and then make money just to survive and live. It gets to a point where medication and therapy are pointless if their situation, living environment, or government won't change, and they are basically backed into a corner left with no other option but to take their own life, due to pressure.

Pressure to be normal enough to function and work, or to just function and be normal. What psychiatry fails to understand is that coping your entire life is not living, surviving off of medication and therapy is not living. Just surviving is not living. They don't realize what kind of life you have to go back to when they stop you from killing yourself, they still preach that life is beautiful and say "At least you're alive", barely. They stop caring about you if they're not able to make you "better". They also don't like people who are extremely aware and still think they can gaslight someone.

There's not enough words for me to express my hatred for psychiatry, mental health laws that are meant to coerce, scare, and control people, and anything anti suicide when this world and its people have nothing better to offer besides empty promises and false hope.

I can't describe how much I detest psych holds when I choose to not deal with a life, responsibility, and future I never wanted or asked for. They ultimately made things worse by forcing me to live and "get better".

And God forbid you cut yourself or do any form of unhealthy coping despite them not offering you any alternatives that are guaranteed to work. I will never understand why I get prosecuted for cutting myself when the shit they told me to do instead never worked or did anything.

And who wants to live when your government is literally making it harder for you to? Its getting harder to find jobs and be able to afford school to get a degree thats supposed to guarantee more wealth, all for you to not be able to find a job right after graduating within the next 2 years and be able to get experience. We go to school nearly our entire adolescence, that should be enough to get basic entry level jobs but its not.

So yeah. "Because I don't want to." is a perfectly valid response and a full sentence when it comes to not wanting to live anymore.

I'm a lot more forgiving of psychiatry than a lot of people I see online but at the end of the day the pills and the therapy do not change the reality of this sick, cruel world. I'm personally in a decent spot. Living in the "first world" global super power. Have that privilege. Job, even tho it's dead end. Supportive family. None of those things change rising food, housing, and gas prices. Doesn't change racist bullshit. Homophobia. Transphobia.

The pills don't even really stop me from being Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill. At best they put a huge cloud over my head and make me, yes more functional but also I feel like half a person. Like I can't think. Which is technically kinda the goal I guess. Idk. I got a psychotic disorder. Off meds I feel more naturally warped and I believe in a god that maybe hates me but needs me. Wants me to slit my throat on the altar of the lord to bring end to all suffering. Beautiful dream. On meds, deeply depressed but more realistic about it. Want to die anyway. There is no winning.

Well I'm definitely not, I'm in a stable at best spot. Keeping me locked up for 2 weeks and making me miss school that I had to make up did more harm than good, and they didn't even help, just offer temporary solutions. Even on medication I still felt awful because my situation never changed.

I don't have a job, my mom caused most if not all the problems I still have today, I barely know my other family members because I wasn't raised with them, under a lot of stress with school, on the verge of possibly being kicked out after another bad argument.

All I have is depression, its from the infrastructure, expectations, cost of living, and more issues with the country I live in. Psychiatry can't help me because my depression is caused by something out of their form of work and because I'm very aware of how the system works and of my choices.

I don't have much to add to this, but I just wanted to say this was beautifully written, and I couldn't agree more. 💗

The entire post is amazing, I resonated most with this part.
Yes you do all this stuff to attempt to have a normal life and then you're betrayed anyway

I feel a lot of guilt because, all things considered, my life is pretty great. I got a good degree and have a good, well-paying job. I have a supportive family who loves me, and have had friends (until I let them fade away) and have been able to date and get interest from women.

By any metric I should be living a happy life. And yet despite all that I just don't want to be here. There's no future that I desire. Nothing that I could change that would suddenly make me want to keep living. I just yearn for non-existence.

I feel guilty for throwing away such a lucky life, I wish I could swap places with some of the people on here who are struggling because of their life situations and give them my life since I don't want it

If you have everything you desire and your still not happy that's probably the worst position too be in if you think about it.

Yeah it's what really made me lost hope.

At a certain point I had friends, I was dating, I was close to my family, in good health and exercising, and doing well in college. And despite all that I had constant thoughts of not wanting to be here.

If I still want to not exist despite having all that, then I can only conclude that I'll feel this way no matter what my life situation is like

I get your sentiment and mostly agree with it, although I think it requires a little more nuance regarding some of your statements. I'm not gonna go into detail about that here, because I have done so countless times elsewhere already and I can't be assed to write the same stuff all over again. Also, after all many of these are subjective and for everyone on themselves to decide after all...

I get prosecuted for cutting myself
Not sure where you get prosecuted for that?!

"Because I don't want to." is a perfectly valid response and a full sentence when it comes to not wanting to live anymore.
Valid, definitely. But I can understand that it might not be enough to persuade anyone to agree with your conclusion regarding your own life, nor make them understand it or approve of it.

I absolutely fail to empathise here because I was really happy when I had even just a subset of these things (no supportive family and well paying job back then for example), now I have an even smaller subset, although my family being supportive now is also a matter of perspective, I guess, but they are at least more supportive than they have been... All the rest went to shit tho.

If you have everything you desire and your still not happy that's probably the worst position too be in if you think about it.
But yeah it must feel quite bad to have all that and still not be content nonetheless, I'm sorry you feel this way.

the worst part is that you don't even get to make that choice peacefully.

this shit comes with the nastiest if's and but's to make sure your way out is as painful as it was coming in... and rest assured, people will make it 10x harder on top of that.

Well, in some countries yeah, but for me it's a figure of speech so sorry for the confusion. But yeah, I was referring to involuntary commitment.

To be honest, they don't have to understand or approve of such a decision when it's not up to them.
