It's a very common thought. If you do a search you'll find numerous (and numerous and numerous) threads on it with divided opinions. My opinion is something certainly happens.

We encounter the unknown and unproven.
All else is speculative, so as well to imagine nice things.

In my opinion nothing is the answer.
As was nothing before your life, there will be nothing after.
Like a song. No sound before, and no sound after.
In other words, your brain will not show you anything, cus' it's dead.

1 microsecond after the brain dies it's non-existence forever = the human will never exist again

Knowing this gives me unbelievable comfort that I will never exist again soon

Non-existence forever is the only guarantee of never suffering extremely so it's the only perfection. Permanent non-existence is the only thing that has zero suffering zero pain zero problems zero bad memories zero 1000 other nightmares therefore permanent eternal non-existence forever is the only only only perfect thing, the ultimate bliss

I just believe death to simply be non-existence, nothing more than an eternal dreamless sleep where all is gone and forgotten about and to sleep permanently is all I could hope for, I just wish to be permanently unconscious of this torturous, unnecessary existence that always felt like the most tragic terrible mistake to me. All I hope and wish for is to never suffer ever again, I'd personally be so relieved to finally cease existing, non-existence really is all I see as desirable, it's all that's positive to me, I'd always prefer to painlessly cease existing than prolong the suffering of existing just to be tortured by old age waiting to die anyway, I'll only be at peace once I no longer suffer in this existence.

I believe in nothingness, where you forget about everything and i can't imagine how peaceful that must be.

i'm not sure. i like to think there may some sort of "afterlife" of only love and peace, whatever that may look like. however the idea of permanently ceasing to exist and nothingness doesn't sound like a bad thing to me at all either

Just as with before I was born i was nothing, then a was born and become conscious I doubt after I go back into being nothing it'll the the end of the cycle. I see the cycle continuing one way or another. Off on off nothing? I say off on off on.... is more likely

Imo, nothing. It is simply non existence, which is why it's so appealing.

You die and that's it. I wholeheartedly believe that consciousness stems completely from the brain and that there is nothing after death.

There's a small part of me that does hope there's something more. Or at least a second chance.

In all reality though, I believe it's like that nothingness that occured before we gained conciousness. Those billions of years spent unaware and undisturbed. I love the thought of it all to be honest. But in a weird way, I wish our conciousness was "recycled" so we could experience another life. Whether it be better or worse, the fact that we all get one chance at this and these are the brains we're stuck in is pretty messed up.
