They are 'anti-nausea' drugs, they prevent things such as vomiting (which obviously can be a problem, if you ingest something that you want to consume, instead of throwing it up)

Antiemetic drugs are medications that help to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting. They are commonly used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness, pregnancy, chemotherapy, and other medical conditions.

Antiemetics work in a variety of ways. Some antiemetics work by blocking the effects of dopamine, a neurotransmitter that is involved in nausea and vomiting. Other antiemetics work by blocking the effects of serotonin, another neurotransmitter that is involved in nausea and vomiting. Still other antiemetics work by blocking the effects of histamine, a chemical that is released by the body in response to allergic reactions.

Antiemetics are available in a variety of forms, including pills, capsules, liquids, and suppositories. Some antiemetics are available over-the-counter, while others require a prescription from a doctor.

It is important to note that antiemetics can have side effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, and constipation. Some antiemetics can also interact with other medications, so it is important to talk to your doctor before taking any antiemetics.

Here are some examples of antiemetic drugs:

  • Ondansetron (Zofran)
  • Promethazine (Phenergan)
  • Metoclopramide (Reglan)
  • Granisetron (Kytril)
  • Doxylamine succinate (Unisom)
  • Diphenhydramine (Benadryl)
