  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

1. Passive euthanasia: I signed up for passive euthanasia 10 years ago through a law here in Spain for advanced directives in the situation of firstly being diagnosed with an incurable disease, secondly there being no cure and thirdly not being able to communicate my treatment desires. I checked off "no" on all the many pages of possible treatments, with the exception of pain medication. It is a long shot, but just in case, I had one foot in the grave 10 years ago. These advance directives are on my chart at all hospitals.

2. DNR order: Two weeks ago, I registered a Do Not Resuscitate Order advance directive on my hospital chart. This means if I have heart problems or lung problems that require CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), they are not allowed to give me CPR. But if something happens outside of the hospital, if they do not have access to my chart, it may be that I am still given CPR.

3. Euthanasia: Since 2021, euthanasia has been legal in Spain. I am now starting the process. Hopefully this is my third strike and I'm out.

Have you taken any steps towards suicide, apart from having tried suicide yourself?

I am a healthy 40 year old on the US. There are no assisted suicide options for me and no doctor is going to sign a DNR order for me. I am on my own, unfortunately.

In this situation in the UK. What's more, the current government doesn't seem to want me to exist, so like, why can't they just arrange a way to make that happen peacefully or something.

I'm in the unique position to get spanish citizenship and even considered it just because of this. From all sources I read online though, it's just incredibly unlikely if you're not very ill even if the law technically offers it. Also moving would cost me a lot of money. Good luck, at any rate. Have you tried, perhaps based on your mental health, assuming you're here based on that? Maybe others have tried before you and you can add your name to the list of people trying. Euthanasia laws don't come about magically, but because people have fought for them. Maybe your voice can make a difference? If not in your lifetime, maybe someone else's?

I found this very clear guideline of the process of getting a DNR in the States, from Medline Plus:

Are you sure you can't do it? It seems to me based on this NHS site that everyone has a right to a DNR status. In the UK it's called "Do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation (DNACPR)". Here's the link with the info:

Yes, it's very hard to claim without serious medical illness. But it can be done. Here's an article that speaks to that issue. Bear in mind this was written two years ago:
