Hi,
I used to enjoy horror movies a lot, and then I had a long break from them. I kinda wanna pick them up again and see what did I miss. I was wondering what's your favorite horror movie? I personally really like "Sinister". The plot, characters, ending is very engaging and don't get me started on the score! That alone gave me such chills.
It felt like the souls from the tapes were screaming in agony. Very unsettling.
So what's your favorite horror movie?

My favorite horror movie from a young age (and I mean young) has been Silence Of The Lambs, but my favorite scene in the franchise is ironically the brain scene from the SECOND movie (Hannibal) 😅

Link (1986). Influenced by Hitchcock. I will post the wikipedia article, so you can find it better, but I recommend not reading the plot of course. @Electra

Silence of The Lambs is such a classic! I watched Red Dragon and Hannibal. Rising too! Have you read the books? Or watched the tv series?

Sinister is the first one that came to my mind too. It was just so dark. I also loved get out and the original Texas chainsaw massacre.

Psycho (1960). Still effective to this day and a Masterwork of cinema in general.

Get out is so disturbing, but a masterpiece for sure! I also liked Texas Chainsaw massacre :).
I Really wanted Sinister 2 to be just as good, but it didn't compare with the first one. Have you seen the second movie?

I've seen it and agree that it wasn't as good as the first one. I think in the first one, the mystery and tension is built much better but the sequel wasn't bad either.

Midsommar was very good! Very disturbing; I noticed that there were tears falling from my eyes during one scene and I got that lovely "I don't want to watch but I don't want to not watch" feeling 😅

I also like The Strange Thing About The Johnsons by Ari Aster, the guy who made Midsommar. It's a short film and available on YouTube. Very, very disturbing and great.

Seen midsommar and it was definitely... an experience to say the least. After the movie I had this weird feeling, that's kinda hard to explain. I guess it's similar to what you wrote here "I don't wanna watch it, but I wanna watch it" 😅.
Putting "The Strange Thing About The Johnsons" into my list!

I also love classics like 'Silence of the Lambs' and 'The Shining.'

A film I return to a lot is '1408'. (2007.)

Spoiler (kind of...)

Their 'express checkout system'. Lol.

Another one I want to watch again because it was so crazy is: 'A Cure for Wellness' (2017.) I also like 'Christine' (1983.) I probably like films about crazy obsessive people/ things in general because they sort of reflect me. Though fortunately, I don't express it so dangerously.

I'm more in to psychological horror/thriller films rather than gore and jump scares. I'm hoping 'Midsommar' isn't too scary. I do want to watch that sometime soon.

Don't have a favourite nor do they scare me, but I'd second Oculus and suggest The Possession of Michael King. And of course the original Exorcist (if you want to see a real horror, watch the second), The Omen 2 is also excellent.

Over the past few years I have been hearing about hereditary over and over again. I don't do horror usually. But I had to see Midsommar and hereditary. I was able to watch Midsommar and not give a damn. But hereditary? That gets my vote.

Phew. That movie really did a number on me. I watched it for Halloween. It terrified me, but It also got me really into demonology and fallen Angel lore.I was already a fan of that because of Ghost Rider comics and stuff like that at a young age.

Anyway. If you want to watch a scary movie and actually not be scared of it anymore, just watch it over and over again. You'll just get so used to it, it won't even be scary. It'll even be funny.

I literally laugh (at this point) at that last scene where the headless mom floats into the treehouse

So probably my top three:
  1. As Above so Below (This will probably always be my favorite)
  2. Dark was the Night
  3. Jeruzalem
Some honorable mentions:
  • 30 days of night (About as much violence as I can handle in a horror movie, tbh a bit much at points)
  • Final Prayer / Borderlands
  • The Autopsy of Jane Doe
  • Hell House IV
