I'm not overly informed on all of the details, but I heard that Canada is legalizing MAiD in 2023 (for both mental & physical illnesses). I was just wondering whether it would be similar to the Swiss model where they accept foreigners if they meet the right criteria. Will they be using Pentobarbital or another anesthetic agent to induce death?

Sites like this wouldn't have to exist if these were common practices. I don't get why society is so against giving people with no other options access to peaceful exits. I just want to leave silently. I don't want to burden anyone or have to resort to anything drastic (like jumping in front of a train and traumatizing uninvolved onlookers) in order to end my life.
I mean, I already jumped off of a building and now I'm infinitely worse off because of it. I unintentionally gave my mother PTSD when she woke up to see my crippled body on the ground. Her screams still haunt me.

I truly hate living in America. It's a curse. Politicians dictate my fate based on their own subjective morals (which 99% of the time involve a religion which I don't personally subscribe to). If you want to choose to believe in God, good for you. But is it too much to ask for you not to shove YOUR beliefs down MY throat? Many of the counselors at the psych wards I went to tried to convert me to Christianity as a treatment approach. I thought conversion therapy was banned in the vast majority of states (I guess that only counts if the circumstance is homosexuality? I'm really not sure, but it didn't sit right with me.)

HI! I also live in the U.S., upper Midwest and I 100% agree with you, @Wrennie. that politicians and some others try and tell me how to live and/or leave this world. I was born in the U.S., but my side came from a darker time in Europe, and I was raised that America is the home of freedom. Then I wish someone would tell me how Switzerland and maybe Canada and other countries are more advanced in social issues?

Like I have said on SS before, it is up to ME and no one else about my choosing of anything, as long as I do not bother anyone else.

Walter

Publicly funded suicide method/government program in U.S.:

Take student loan the kind that lets the money go direct to your bank account

Book flight to country where N sold OTC

  • be in an advanced state of irreversible decline in capability
  • have enduring and intolerable physical or psychological suffering that cannot be alleviated under conditions the person considers acceptable
This probably means that a doctor will need to evaluate you and agree that your condition can't improve.
That probably means you need to jump through hoops and try a various other treatments which to some people could be harmful.
I expect I'd be told to try newer antidepressants. I would never take any psychiatric medication again even if I was completely healthy but I worry that the condition I'm in now, I would risk not just being in worse pain but becoming even more incapacitated which would completely ruin any chance I have of just DIYing it.

I do not expect it will be an easy route to take for anyone but especially chemically sensitive people whose reasons for avoiding certain treatments isn't seen as legitimate.
I guess some people might luck out and get a doctor who understands their condition/s but I'd imagine evaluators will be very conservative about who they let through screening.

I wonder how they'd go about the act of euthanasia though. Seconal is no longer being manufactured despite the rights to it belonging to a Canadian pharmaceutical company.

Will they use Pento like the Swiss clinics, or will they resort to lesser methods of deliverance such as the DDMP cocktail (used in Oregon assisted suicides)?

I couldn't even tell you how many times I've been told I'll never get it. I've never been taken seriously by physicians (both general practice and mental health specialized). I was going to wait for MAiD, but now my plan is back to ye olde rope
