I asked a similar question in my last post where I asked about FMJ bullets instead of hollow-point bullets.

Everyone loves the "overkill" of hollow point bullets. They are highly destructive. They are also much like a shotgun in the mess they leave behind.

If you spend a little time with our friend google, you will find the lethality of all calibers and variants.

Here in Europe they are unfortunately banned.

A regular round will still do the job. Nearly any gun will get it done if aimed correctly.
We do not have an abundance of shooting survivors because the hole was too small. You survive because the hole is not in the correct place.

People come here to talk.
Oh, sorry, I was unaware that people can only talk via making whole new threads. My bad for directing them to the long-established thread for talking about the exact topic they wanted advice for, including extra information that they later asked for.
It's not like new threads means other threads get bumped down and buried or anything. I wonder why, when you go to make a thread, it specifically shows you threads that already exist that may be talking about that topic already?

In what part of the body are you planning to shoot yourself - 1) in and up through the mouth to take out brain stem, 2) side of the head, or 3) through chest into the heart?

Also, you need to take into account the speed at which the projectile (bullet or shot) travels. One reason shotguns and rifles leave such a mess (and are more "effective") than smaller caliber bullets is because of the rapid displacement of air and gases caused by the explosion of the gunpowder. There is quite a bit more gunpowder (and different types) in shotgun shells and rifle rounds, as opposed to small caliber firearm rounds.

This is probably the biggest reason rifle and shotgun attempts are more "successful" overall than handgun attempts. When you do not have the massive blow from the gunpowder exploding (bullets are just very small controlled explosions), you have to be WAY more accurate in where you place the projectile (the bullet) to be successful.
