Help Why does the brain do this?

Im laying there trying to forget it all and sleep. But even then it doesnt want to rest. Where my brain suddenly floods in my biggest regrets. And most embarrassing moments that I wished I forget. When I wake and Im flooded with false hope and instant restlessness. Is this all just a torture chamber designed for suffering where you have to fight to feel good?
