I am of average height more or less. Most of my friends are of average height. I have some friends that are quite tall but I don't perceive them as this much attractive. I also don't understand the appeal of a tall woman. Maybe the reason is that I just don't think this much about it because of the fact that I am just average. I think if someone is below average people tend to inferiority complexes. And if they are above average (depending on person and topic) be are proud of it and get self-esteem from it. Another reason could be that I don't think like an average women about all of that. I think I don't get the appeal of most men in general.

There are studies that people of above average height have advantages to get into top positions in companies. The thing is I probably never thought about this consciously. You might remember Olaf Scholz. I voted for him two times. I didn't care about his height. He is way below average. And now Merz is in office who is pretty tall. But it doesn't change the fact that he is a (censored because of German free speech laws).

Maybe it is something that influences my perception subconsciously. I perceive Merz as quite arrogant. Maybe his height even has a negative impact on my perception of him. But maybe if I actually liked him his height would have a different impact on my perception. Not sure.

I'm not totally sure to be honest. It's not something I've ever really paid attention to, and if the internet hadn't made a big thing of it, it wouldn't have even occurred to me to use it as a standard in dating. Not to say that it's something new; I think it has probably seen as "better" for a long time in human history, but I don't see any evolutionary reason as to why, though maybe it's a failure of the imagination. Presumably being tall would be a survival disadvantage because you require more calories to survive and have less body fat to protect yourself against future famines. So I think it's valued mostly because it's a signifier of social status.

I think maybe we subconsciously associate it with good health and nutrition. I imagine bad of either can stunt growth. I suppose women like tall men because they may like to feel protected. Not that that is a sure indicator of course. Shorter men can be just as strong. But, I suppose they look more intimidating and impressive. We are animals at the end of the day.

I wasn't aware that men did like tall women. I thought young, pretty and slim were the more desirable qualities. Some men hate for their partners to be taller in fact. There's that whole rumour that Tom Cruise prefered his partners to wear shoes with flats so as not to exceed his height.

I've fancied guys of my height- fairly short for a guy- 5ft 6inches and up but- tall height can definitely look impressive/ attractive.

I think there have indeed been studies to suggest taller men are in higher powered/ paying jobs. It is quite bizarre. But then- maybe their height gave them more confidence from the start.

I am over 6 feet tall and that causes a lot of problems, everything is small for me, most tall people suffer from back pain

Since men are greater in stature than women, I'd think tallness is equated with masculinity in the same way that muscularity is and considered attractive for the same reason. I don't think tallness in women is considered conventionally attractive.

I'm pretty short myself (~5'6, male) and I've never really had an issue with it (nor have I ever personally met anyone who did, even ex-girlfriends didn't really think anything of it). I think even if I were suddenly given the option to be really tall I would honestly choose to remain the same. I've always been pretty confused about people who go on a tirade about how they're 'too short' and will never find love because nobody will ever find them attractive yadda yadda. It sounds so extreme I've always assumed that it's in jest, but a lot of people sincerely feel that way. I think the whole thing functions as a sort of scapegoat for people who would rather blame something that they can't change than address any of their actual flaws. And I don't even believe it's as big of an 'issue' as the internet makes it seem in the first place.

I personally find older & taller women particularly attractive. But for sure, young women who are also small in stature are probably still the most conventionally attractive. I'm sure there's all sorts of scientific/evolutionary explanations for why these qualities have been the 'standard' for as long as they have though

Are you good looking? and/or fit some type of aesthetic niche?

Tall women are also definitely conventionally attractive. Average model is like 5'8 or something.

I do think I'm conventionally attractive, as for an 'aesthetic niche' I'm not quite sure what you mean, but people have described me as alternative in the past. But I'm not sure what that has to do with it.

Well I wouldn't say 5'8 is very tall, even for a woman. When I say tall I usually refer to anything close to 6ft or above.

I mean, if you're attractive then obviously height isn't going to be as important for you compared to an ~average guy. And by "aesthetic niche" I was just asking if you have features and/or exist within a certain subculture that have their own niche appeal.

being 5'8 as a woman is equivalent to being 6'1 as a guy (assuming western averages). I think being 6'1 as a guy is generally considered tall. Being ~6' as woman is like being ~6'5 which is when attractiveness for guys also tends to taper off. Albeit, not to the same degree as Women.

It's just perception, people correlate height to certain traits like confidence, protectiveness and maturity; I wouldn't really say it matters as much as people online claim, it's just one of the things people will take into account.

I can't really say much for shorter people but I had short friends who did just fine relationship-wise.

I'm 6'5" and resent the inference that my sexiness has tapered off as a result. 6'6" is different though, that's just too much. I think it's really at that point that it drops off a cliff, totally objectively speaking of course.

i guess guys do prefer shorter women. my ex didnt like me wearing heels because i would be too tall. i certainly felt like he hated me at times since i was 5'4 and not 4'11 like his ex. even she commented on my height saying im too tall for an asian. i didnt have a problem with my height but it seems like it makes me unappealing since im awkward looking instead of confident and beautiful. despair.

Sometimes I dont even think being conventionally attractive is worth it at all because then youre constantly doubting if people really care about you or if you just check off all the boxes required for them to see you as a person. I dont want to interact with those kinds of people anyways

Being fairly tall I have found myself excited by women who are also tall. Still I'm not picky when it comes to height. Never been with an unusually short partner, but never had mutual attraction.

I've had so varied partners that I want to believe I like the features because the person I'm attracted to has them. More realistically it's going to be how all those features come together, personality included.
