• Hey Guest,

We wanted to share a quick update with the community.

Our public expense ledger is now live, allowing anyone to see how donations are used to support the ongoing operation of the site.

Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

Many of us have fear of failure which is understandable. However, the numbers are awful: for every successful attempt, there are 25 failed attempts!!

Some of the failures are due to:

- method error
- poor planning/impulse
- interruption/being found
- SI

anything else?

It may sound cold but I think many have half assed attempts as well which technically falls into the self harm category, atleast from an observer's point of view! Other than that the immune system, bodily conditions and sometimes age also play a big role from the stories I have read somewhere. But many have a lack of knowledge about the proper and potent methods and I am willing to bet that their number is quite big.

where did you read that?

Which part, the failure rate or the causes of said failures? The former can be easily found on the several health websites, for the US. (AFSP/NIMH/CDC) The latter probably has a study somewhere, but they are safe guesses I think (as they are pretty broad). I'm curious now, might look for some.

I think a lot of people truly don't want to die, but their situation or circumstances force them into acts of desperation. Desperation combined with survival instinct is the perfect recipe for a failed attempt because they often don't rationally think about the method, process or risks involved which leads to a lack of preparation and subsequent failure. We know better than anyone else just how difficult it is to cross that line. For example, hanging. 1 in 25 people who attempt hanging will cross that line, but then that 1 person has a 70% chance of succeeding their death and a 30% chance that their anchor may break, ligature may snap or they may be found too soon. Reasons for failure are definitely case by case so some methods pose more risks than others, but I genuinely believe many people feel like they have no choice but they're afraid to die or often times it could be a cry for help, especially when under the influence of alcohol or another substance. The statistics are sad, but I hope most of the people who failed did so because they didn't truly want to die or weren't ready, and I hope they were able to find the right guidance or support to live better or find sources of happiness.

I agree with the reasons you listed. Suicide is very difficult in a society that does not respect the right to die. Because people are denied the option of a peaceful exit they have to resort to risky methods that can fail. The SI can be determined to keep us suffering as well. To me it is understandable why there are so many failed attempts, if suicide was easier I would already be gone.

Not enough research done on their own to really understand the process. And, slowly listing all the what if this happens or that happens so you've
covered all the bases.

There have been ss members who posted that they attempted to get attention/revenge/etc. I think people changing their minds or not being 100% committed to dyeing are big reasons.

Methods are a big part of it too. Many people on ss try partial, which for the most part just results in a bruised neck. Big difference between that and kicking out a chair.

For me it's lack of proper resources and SI. But if I had the proper ingredients, I would have ctb'ed a long long time ago. But ever since discovering SS I can get the right ingredients and with these I can easily override SI. I dissociate and depersonalize often (thanks trauma!) so ramming through SI will be a piece of cake. I'm completely done (hence my username hehe!)
