Who else has given up on social media? Why?

I quit facebook after about a year IIRC, was never into it. Everything. Don't even get me started. I prefer to be invisible. And from what I hear, I'm not missing the slightest thing. People will be people.

I was getting bored with Facebook anyway for years. Never liked taking photos much, so Instagram and snapchat and the others were out. I've browsed Instagram though, once had Twitter just for celebrity fan purposes.
Besides, I don't want all those stupid mushy and nosey people checking out my page. Then again, i won't be around, so why do I care. lol.

Obviously what's going to suck is when you don't have any, or have very few.

Browsing through social media sites is like injecting high-purity depression into your veins. Everyone gets a short high from it but ends up being more depressed. So all you want is another quick fix to get you high again.

I gave up on social media two and a half years ago after my accounts were hacked numerous times by someone sending out porn and threats. Too much hatred on social media anyway.
I used to like looking at some things on Pinterest but havent been there awhile either.

Most social media services provide you with all necessary things for your "cyber life". However it lacks of opportunity to find new friends and get acquainted with them in real life. Nowadays social media is nothing but a platform for commercial and show off.

I think social media creates more problems than it solves and pretty much everyone feels the same way when they see pics or posts of others supposedly enjoying themselves. Could be that for a lot of them they're not having as great a life as we believe. What does piss me off is those with wealth flaunting it and rubbing it in your face with their latest purchase or luxury holiday.

Facebook and other sites are just a way for people to brag about holidays food and gifts. And it annoys me when people say they have like 10000+ friends on their account, but in reality how many of them do you actually see on a regular basis and hang out with them? I don't want others knowing what I'm doing or being pestered to play stupid games like FarmVille or what ever it's called. Facebook is just for people who can be keyboard warriors and rub it in others faces to say oh I got my new phone or I had a massive shit. NO ONE CARES! I miss the old days of having friends that you met up with and went on bike rides and to arcades. Now it's all digital friendships which I think is crap. That's my daily moan for the day

YouTube is the only one I use that technically counts a social media platform at this point. Outside of Reddit and Twitter which are solely porn sites to me.

Me. I left social media for an indefinite about of time due to the painful memories associated. And plus, social media makes me feel more self-conscious. The only social media I really use is YouTube these days and even then I just watch videos on there.

Weirdly, fb energises me actually. I've fed so much data into the damned algorithm (read: so thoroughly whored myself) that they're actually pretty on point with balancing my desires for humour, news, depression-posting, and fandom nonsense. It's given up trying to interest me in the successes of my peers and their terrific lives thank god.

That's until... I try actually posting something. Then I just get anxious as shite about who'll see it, who will like it, who won't, what they'll think, how they'll judge. So inevitably I freak out and delete, ha.

So not terrible for lurking if you don't care much for privacy and train your algorithm ok but a goddamn anxiety machine for actual interactions.

I spend way too much time on social media and I think it's done a lot of damage over the last 10 years.

It seems ironic to say something "isn't healthy" on a site a like this, but if anyone wants to learn more about the damage social media does, Tristan Harris (The Social Dilemma on Netflix) and Max Fisher are great resources. I like to watch interviews/podcasts with them on YouTube.
