I've learned how to tie knots and I have nice thick rope and a chair/stool. I also have drugs to relax me. The missing ingredient is a place to attach the rope - there's nothing sturdy enough in my apartment. What are some options?

Could always drill a hole into a wall stud or doorframe and mount an eye bolt or similar anchor point, unless of course you're worried about getting your deposit back. Usually the bar for hanging clothes in your closet is strong enough, but you may need to swap out the mounting screws for larger ones as some apartment owners cut corners here and use small screws that may not hold your weight.
