When can a person start applying for euthanasia for mental illness in Canada with MAiD?

When can a person start applying for euthanasia for mental illness in Canada with MAID?

I know people can't get euthanized until March 2023 but if people don't start applying until then it could be another year before anyone actually gets euthanized for Mental illness.

Is there people already on a list for it? Is there a way to start getting on that list to minimize my wait time once MAID for mental illness does get allowed?

I presume you're from Canada? You're so lucky! Sorry that I don't have much (if any) information to give you, but here's a free bump for your thread.

America seriously needs to follow-suit, but I'm pretty confident in that we're the worst developed nation when it pertains to "religion" plaguing our every political decision.

You have to be deemed "untreatable" (be extremely treatment resistant) so if a first line medication has helped your condition before its unlikely you'll ever be accepted.

You just need to find a corrupt doctor/ go to Victoria where there always trying to misplace drug addicts.

WTF to all of this. If you haven't tried psychiatric care you really should.

Ok.
1. There is no "list".
2. Read this article from a few days ago, it explains that there are still MANY steps before anyone is approved for MAID who suffers from a mental illness and no other severe illness.
3. Unless you have tried EVERY reasonable treatment option you won't be eligible.

Talk to your doctor and try to find out if they would generally support the idea of MAID itself.

Start/continue whatever treatments they suggest so you can show proof of what you have tried (and what didn't work). Get your ducks in a row.

This new law will require a massive shift in perception in a huge part of society and especially amongst healthcare professionals. It won't be like a switch being flipped in 2023.

I fear applying for MAID and a doctor disagreeing will have me rendered sucidal, thrown in the hospital and have the law come at me in others way that being declared sducidal would penalize me.
