i consider myself a total optimist. but, some studies show optimists in general would have less suicidal ideation .. while others say optimism would be nearly necessary to bring one to want to ctb

what do you guys think?
i also can't reconcile how i have hope things will get better .. while simultaneously feeling the hopelessness that would perhaps be necessary to want to ctb

i think it's less about being hopeless of the future for me .. and more about the unbearable pain i feel of the inevitable journey of reaching said hope.

and i feel ultimately ctb would have me reach that state sooner .. or make the yearning of wanting to reach a better state .. obsolete all together.

A pessimist
I consider myself a romantic
A fascination with past eras, the supernatural, finding beauty in sadness and death, passion and intuition and subjective feelings are the key to navigating this world, love is the biggest strength in this place, and an adoration for nature
The distaste for the rise of the machine, having to try and find the spiritual in this cold uncaring world, science becoming the true baseline status for everything ever, everything being "discovered", losing the heroicism and mysticism of the Past
Nature and uniqueness and love are the only things that could save this world and lead it someplace greater, and dig it out of the cold steel box it's placed itself into
And yet at the same time, does nature care for us humans at all? As a human am I deeplyflawed and inherently a bringer of destruction into this beautiful landscape? There's a melancholy to living, escaping from this place into fantasies of a better past, a sweeter existence, not cold and filthy and detached.. Sigh

Realist. It helps I am a science person. Reality is what it is and you can put whatever spin on it you want, but the facts do not change.

beautifully said. see i like this, because while it seems many pessimists i come across, see the world maybe more clearly than optimists (who knows if that's true) they also tend to carry a hopelessness of it getting better .. which i love it seems you have to some degree

Realist. For most of life some mixture of the rest. I think that's unhealthy now. Better to face reality

Of the available options for the poll I chose realist, though I am deeply sympathetic to the above quoted perspective.

Probably optimist too. Somewhat of a realist as well, but my default understanding of the world and myself has always been highly idealistic to start with. I often struggle and clash with the world and consider it from a more realistic pov when my model just doesn't match reality. But I always start with the imagined ideal.

Pessemistic Existentialist-hedonism is what I identify with.

There is no objective meaning. Subjective meaning still holds value. However, it's outweighed by suffering at this point in time, and I have predicted it will in the years to come. However, no one can know for sure, yoy must remain open to the idea that you are wrong.

the hedoist idea comes from things you do. You go to work because you think it brings you greater pleasure overall than not going to work. You might sacrifice yourself for your kids because their continued existence will make you satisfied, even at the cost of your own life. You may fight another person in a bar because you find bottling up your anger less preferable to fighting.

I chose Realist. I see exactly how the world works and the suffering of human existence, much too clearly. There is some good on the planet but not enough to offset the bad. I would have never opted into existence and intentionally never had children because I think it is selfish. The world is already way over populated. Adopt from a 3rd world country, if you want to be a hero. Then to make matters worse, if you choose to continue to endure your suffering until your natural demise, there is no prize or reward in the end. Most likely it is nothing, just like before you were born. Everyone you know will eventually forget about you as they will die too. So there is no point to any of it good or bad. Aside from those with strong religious beliefs, I don't how anyone feels like living.

I'm a nihilist more than anything. In the grand scheme of the universe, I don't really matter. I'd rather take comfort in the little things, like the media I like, or my personal projects, instead of worrying about what the universe wants from me. I chose skeptic, mainly because I don't trust my perception of the world enough to call myself a realist. Contemplating philosophy just makes me more suicidal, though, so I try not to think about it too much.

I agree with this so much, could've never said it better. I feel like that we've already lost so much, everything has become too utilitarian, so we need to hold on to the things we still have

A pessimist. I tend to catastrophise a lot. Also, I'm cynical. I have a very low opinion of the human race.

That's interesting that you say only an optimist would suicide. I suppose that's true- in terms of- we're betting on not ending up in even more trouble as a result.

pessimist — used to be an optimist, andddddd that's what made me become a pessimist, pretty much.

realist — the older i get, the more of a realist i become, because, realistically, humanity sucks gorilla balls.

nihilist — i barely matter as a gay black man in the fucking usa. you think i would matter to this gigantic-ass universe? fuck no.

I don't really know the terms well ... I don't know if I'd be a realist or a nihilist?

I believe in what is true about the world, but the truth is always what people don't want it to be.

pessimist anti natalist with some existentialist themes

i think life has meaning but not in some grand objective sense, i think we all make our own meaning, but to do that we have to suffer so much, and it wouldve been better to have never been at all, this meaning doesnt outweigh the suffering we have to endure, but it still exists, its up to you whether you want to pursuit it or not, im also an anti natalist, i think its cruel to bring people into this world considering how horrible it is, even if society was radically transformed, there is so much suffering embedded into life because humans are creatures with profound desires, we want something, we fantasise about it, we find ourselves not having it + we suffer, if were lucky enough to get it, we eventually get bored and want something else, and the cycle repeats, i think we should break this cycle by putting a stop to reproducing, the greatest strength and greatest torment of humans is the complexity of our minds
