Discussion What would you say loneliness feels like

I don't know if I personally experience loneliness, but I'm curious on how people would describe it

it's a gutwrenching pain at first, but you get used to it. either it becomes a constant dull pain or a sense of nothing at all. or both

most of the days i feel so numb about it but sometimes it tears me up from the inside

Crippling.
You think you get used to it, then tragedy strikes again and all you wish you had is just one fucking person to go to.
One person to call when youve got that handful of pills ready to go.
But theres nobody. Theres never been anybody. And there never will be somebody.
If you spend the majority or all of your life alone, just end it.
It doesnt get better.

When no one is your friend, everyone is an enemy. It feels like unescapable danger. No where is safe, no one to trust. There is no peace, only anxiety.

To me its like a gnawing feeling. I don't notice at times when I am distracted by something else or focused but it eventually comes as a realisation when you become aware that there is an empty void.

It feels like being on the outside of a giant glass dome, looking in on the inside and seeing everyone enjoying themselves having a good time while you can never break through that glass wall. You have to suffer.

Loneliness causes a certain type of suffering. People can also cause another type of suffering. Loneliness is peaceful, at least. You can try to balance out being lonely, at least with online relationships maybe.

it hurt horribly when it first happened. i felt abandoned by everyone, my heart ached at that thought constantly. that was years ago and now i feel indifferent about it

Well it can really hurt and questions yourself if its your own fault or just no one like you but sadly is a feeling you get used to if your feeling that on a daily basis that you just somewhat get used to.

Loneliness feels like your already dead , just a ghost haunting the husk of your rotting body.

Like nothing. Like irrelevance. Like existing inside of a white cell with no furniture and no way out.

To me, it feels like a dead arm - the kind you get if you sleep on your arm for too long. It's a dull type of numbness until it's agitated - then it's acutely painful for a while, before coming back to its limp numbness.
