Yeah. Cousin. Well, cousin by marriage, anyway. Partial hanging. Had a friend, too, when I was young, who blew his brains out with some type of firearm. Had a by-blood 3rd cousin die from a heroin od. Not sure if that was ctb, or not. It's not clear. My neighbor across the street blew his brains out with a firearm. There was a guy I used to work with, too, who killed himself, but I forget how. I think it was firearm, but not 100% sure. He was into guns I remember. He got a terminal diagnosis of some kind and decided to end it before things got real bad.

My best friend. He drove into a tree at high speed. Car caught fire but he supposedly died from the impact of the car hitting the tree.

I hope he did. Burning alive is a less pleasant way to go.

One person in high school played chicken with a freight train an got hit. The train threw him 30+ feet and it was the impact of his head on the ground which killed him according to the paper. Don't know his true intentions though.
A 20 something girl in therapy hung herself in her apartment. She seemed like a cheerful person and it was a shock. I suspect Paxil SSRI tipped the scales.
The manager of a restaurant I was a waiter at shot himself when being investigated for a staged robbery around Christmas time. The same type of robbery happened the year before and investigators put it together that it was an inside job. I suspect he had drug or gambling debts based on the culture of that work environment.
Relative of my father's friend drank antifreeze and languished for 2 weeks in excruciating pain from slow organ failure before passing.

Yep. Husband's co-worker blew his head off with a shotgun. I also had a co-worker kill herself, but I never heard how it happened.

Knew a couple but I only know the methodology of a guy across the street from me when I was young. Bipolar, stopped taking his meds, lost his job right around Christmas he was in a bad place. Killed his wife and kid and then hung himself. It was really tragic honestly the whole debacle still haunts me sometimes, kid was only 9 or so right around my age at the time. I think it's why I'm so numb to the idea of death between that and another friend being murdered when I was in 7th grade or so (he was older, like 18ish)

A family friend/ neighbor was found to have violently cut her throat with a knife. Her husband says that she woke up at night and she kept saying that people who she saw in her dreams and real life would not stop haunting her and that they were coming for her and she quickly did the act. There's no evidence that the husband killed her. I think she had a mental illness.

I live in Italy, where firearm possession is granted only to law enforcement.
The main causes of death among law enforcement officers in my country are gunshot wounds, or, if obtaining a firearm is not an option, they resort to full suspension hanging, while partial suspension hanging is still relatively unknown.
Lately, deaths from SN have become more frequent, especially among young people who learned about it here.
I know a guy who used to go to my school and decided to jump off a building. I don't know if he did it from his home or from what height, but I do know that since then, he has been paralyzed and uses a wheelchair.
He is still alive today but has completely lost the use of his legs.

An old friend loved partial, and sought that to be her way out. Eventually she made her decision. It was part kink, part depression. She loved to choke, and wanted to die doing something she loved. She would practice with a rope multiple times a day, until she went through with it and succeeded.

I became friends with a girl when we were both in hospital. She was hospitalised for an OD when I met her, was discharged, and I saw her being wheeled in again. She told me she went home and tried to hang herself.

She was 2 years older than me, and we spent time together because there was not much to do in hospital. About 2 weeks after her second attempt, a nurse came rushing over to me asking whether I had seen her. She had gone on day leave, it was afternoon, she was due back to hospital but she hadn't come back. I knew right then that she had ctb'ed.

A couple days later, the police came to the hospital to confirm suicide by drowning.

I really liked her. It's been over 10 years since she passed, and I still think about her often.

A member of this sub (I forget his name) wrote about jumping from seven stories and landing on his legs. He too was permanently in a wheelchair and one leg had to be amputated at the hip. He CTB successfully with the SN method but if I remember it correct it was a good number of years between the jump and SN.

I have known many people who have taken their own lives, belonging to different circles of my life: family members, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.
In my own street, a man jumped from the first floor, dying on the spot. His brother, some time later, committed suicide by throwing himself under a train. Another brother met his end by deliberately crashing his motorcycle into a wall, a fate he had spoken about for some time.
My aunt was found dead in her car in 1987 after taking medication, probably barbiturates. A schoolmate of mine shot herself in the chest with a rifle and died in the hospital about an hour later. A priest who had been involved in a relationship with a married man from my street hanged himself. A cousin of mine slit his wrists in the bathtub.
A friend, after being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment, could no longer endure the situation and took her own life by crashing her car into a tree. A neighbor, while talking to his wife about dinner and ordering a pizza, went upstairs and shortly after shot himself with a hunting rifle. His wife heard the shot and found him dead instantly.
A friend of mine committed suicide, but I don't know how; I only found out through social media, where his brother remembers him every year without specifying the method. This summer, a young man who lived near me hanged himself. I also lost a partner in the same way.
A former schoolmate waited one night for a car to pass by and threw himself in front of it. The teacher driving the vehicle later told me she didn't even see him—she only heard the impact, and his body was thrown far away.
I knew a young man who took his own life in a barn on his farm, using a nail gun with a captive bolt cartridge. I also remember a couple who, when I was a child, killed themselves together by drinking, I believe, muriatic acid.
The father of a woman who owns a perfume shop in the town where I used to live shot himself. Some people drowned themselves; I didn't know them personally, but I know who they were and am familiar with their families.

And many more.

My dad is a lawyer and he took on a divorce case for a woman many years ago. When her husband got served the divorce papers he pulled out a gun and attempted to shoot her but he missed, then he shot himself in the head. The poor woman was obviously traumatized and it left a nasty mess for her to clean up. My dad never took another family law case because that experience was so horrible.

Okay I finally found the member, he was

Onelegman

Here is his goodbye thread. Halfway down he tells his life story which is a fascinating saga of pain, recovery, resilience and ultimately persistence to ctb as it was 20 years between the jump and SN.

fiance shot themself in the head, friend jumped into a freezing river, ex boyfriends mother ODed on alcohol and a mix of other drugs, one person used SN, one friend did VSED, one person went in front of a semi truck. these were just the people I knew pretty well who had to kill themsleves. Besides my fiance, all of us were destroyed by Rx antibiotics, benzos, anti malarials or antipsychotics. most tried to hang on for years for a recovery that never came. they were all murdered in other words, driven to euthanize themselves. all under 50 years old. youngest 43, oldest 49.
In college i also knew a young man who shot himself with a hunting rifle. in his parents driveway. he got addicted to Rx pain killers as a pharmacy student and tried to rob the pharmacy he was working at with a can a of mace and was thwarted. ran home got his parents rifle and shot himself in front of his dad in the driveway. dead before the ambulance could even pull out of the hospital.

My sister hanged herself. Depression and anxiety hit her hard. Same with me. Same outcome maybe.
