I planned on killing myself last month. I did not have a VPN because I could not afford one. I made a couple of posts about the date I was going to CTB on. The night I made those posts, some guy was knocking on my door for about an hour. He then called the cops, they left after 20 minutes or so, I managed to get an Uber and got my partner to a hotel room to attempt suicide. Eventually the police tracked us down and found us, and got us transported to a psychiatric unit.

I know that there are people undercover watching, but that is kind of vague. I am really curious about what the most likely explanation for this is. Did someone undercover send an anonymous tip and have my IP address tracked down?

Note to anyone undercover potentially looking at this: NO, I am not currently planning or wanting to kill myself.

The story is too vague.
Maybe your partner reported you?

I don't think anyone could track your IP address, not from here anyway.

I very much doubt that, she was just as suicidal as me at the time and when we met we planned on killing ourselves. And she was stunned when the police showed up at our door.

Most likely it was a change in your behavior or routine. Maybe a small comment to a friend or coworker. Possibly some evidence of a goodbye note on a work or school computer. As much as it sucks to have to, I will not change my routine even up to the day I ctb.

If you're not using a vpn your IP could be tracked easily by the authorities.

More likely the ISP reported him. Fucked up, but that's what they do.

I feel vpn these days don't make much difference these days.
If they want they can hack or find you.

The US.

That couldn't be possible. I literally have been agoraphobic for the past 8 years, since I graduated high school. My routine has not changed since then. The amount of time I wasted was one of the major reasons why I was suicidal.

You wanna link something to base that on before you go scaring people on the internet with some vague non-IT talk?

i dont see how thats possible, they dont have access to any information that could suggest that you are an imminent threat to yourself, its not like they have access to your emails messages or account data or search history

If you use Whatsapp you'll know that since they're owned by FB, they harvest and collect ALL your data; voice and text. You can test it by having a conversation with someone about - i dunno - trees. Next time you go online you will get ads for trees.

This is the reason I will not write here anything the day I will CTB, neither announce it.

Want to know something creepy? I was browsing this place on my phone the other day (only have vpn on laptop) and shortly after, i went on FB and a message popped up saying "What do you want to happen to your FB account after your death?" Everything is run by AI now.

Idk, like people call crisis teams and get no support at all and others get random peeps using complicated methods to track them down. Where do they get the resources from?

They'd need to have some sort of reason to investigate OP though. Authorities might take a look after getting a tip, but they won't just browse the internet looking for suicidal people.

some guy was knocking on my door for about an hour.
A guy who looked like an ordinary member of the public, do you mean? I think the most likely thing is that this person reported you to the police, and they came to find out this information somehow. Maybe they were just a randomer, or maybe they were loosely tied to you somehow. You've not told us what your method was. But if you purchased something, or a combination of things, either in person or online, perhaps that was a dead giveaway as to what your intentions were.

Just found out today from my sister that the guy knocking on my door was the boyfriend of my suicide partner. He called the cops and told them what was going on, which led to me getting caught. Interesting, because that night, when I asked my partner if she had any relatives or anyone else in her life that might have found out, she said no. Just wanted to update you guys and particularly anyone that is worried about this.
