im asking this question because im only 19 and ive decided to ctb, before joining this fourm i thought, "well, im adult now, i can make these decisions!" but since coming on here ive seen people be (rightfully) skeptical of the extent to which people my age have the capacity to make such a big decision, id really love to hear more thoughts on the matter, it probably wouldnt sway my choice, this is just out of curiosity

as well, i see a lot of people on here that have said they have felt this way since they were my age, and im honestly impressed with the ability to endure these feelings for that long, whether you had to due to circumstance, or whether you decided to hold off the decision, but im wondering, did it feel worth it for you to "wait" until youre older to ctb? are you glad you stuck around?

but id like to share a bit more about myself, i think people see a 19 year old making this decision, and they think "this is a kid making a permanent choice based on problems that wont matter in another 5 years, with the right support, they would be ok" but personally i have tried very hard to be ok, but unfortunately i havent had much success, ive done different types of therapy since i was 12, ive genuinely tried in them, i think that the techniques ive learnt from therapy have absolutely benefited me, so im not saying it was a waste of time, but it didnt take away my near constant mental suffering

im now at a place where i cant access therapy because my mental state has deteriorated so much, i have an eating disorder, im classed as severely underweight, and due to this i wont be accepted into any therapy, and you might think "just do eating disorder therapy then?" i have, ive been in an intensive day patient program, i was discharged because my eating disorder is mostly fueled by emotional regulation, and they consider it "detrimental to my wellbeing" to take away this crutch, ive tried to recover by myself, only ended up worse, and it might not be well known but trying to recover by yourself is actually quite dangerous, you dont get the medical monitoring, which is absolutely necessary as you can be at risk of something called refeeding syndrome

ive also got great friends, ive found "my people", i got good grades, i put effort into fixing my relationship with my parents, im doing a course at one of the best universities in my country, ive loved reptiles since i was a kid and i finally got the chance to own one, but still, none of this takes these feelings away, and id like to just be done, even if it got better, suffering is still an inevitable part of life, and i feel like the short time ive been here ive suffered enough for multiple lifetimes, and id like to just be at peace, my lifespan will be cut short by anorexia anyways, even if i decide to recover, my body is damaged, and on top of that i have plenty of other mental issues

for myself, i first attempted self harm at five years old. i've been depressed for over a decade despite only being twenty-two. i've been diagnosed with five separate disorders and i feel like i've already lost despite my young age. if a kid tries killing themselves at seven and nothing is done for them, of course they're going to become even more radical once they grow up. i don't even self harm. i make attempts and if they fail, i immediately start planning a new and better one.

i'm 44 years old.. i wasn't suffering tons yet when i was a teenager or in my 20s, so maybe i can't relate to you as much.. but getting older sure does suck and makes life gradually worse.. around age 30 i got tinnitus (permanent ear ringing sound) from listening to headphones too loudly, and so i went in to deep depression for 2 years but eventually habituated to it, but my ears are still super sensitive and so i always have to protect them all the time and so it makes my life a nightmare.. then i had a stroke in 2020 (that i stupidly caused my self) that caused permanent severe brain damage; it's the worst thing that has ever happened in my life.. and so last month i was planning on CTB but when it came time to do it my SI (survival instinct) kicked in HARD and i realized i'm too scared to CTB yet and so i'm kind of stuck in this life for now..

life gets worse as you get older, and so you need to try to get your life on track and try being successful to compensate, or else you start feeling like your life jumped the shark and is at a dead end but you are still here lingering around, trying to financially survive and all your family is dead and your friends all went separate ways, and so it gets lonely if you don't have friends or family..

as far as your actual situation.... by the way i'm sort of autistic and very logical/pragmatic.. so but, as for how i see it, if you keep doing the same thing you will keep getting the same result..... if your life feels sucky then it's going to continue feeling that way unless you change things.. a car is going to keep heading the same direction unless you turn the steering wheel..

i don't usually respond to people with eating disorders because i don't really understand eating disorders and i don't want to be rude to them by giving them advice that seems tone-deaf ("just be okay with eating more food!").. but from a logical perspective, you know it is a problem, and it is some thing that should be solved, right?.. So then you imagine an ideal version of your self and then start thinking "how do i get from the current version of me to the version of me that i want to be?".. you know?....... it's like, SOME THING has to change eventually... you can't just continue with the same behavior and expect things to get better.. so but, i don't know what that looks like exactly, but it's some thing for you to think more on.. and if you can make the changes in small steps then it obviously helps.. I know i've had to lose weight before, and that kind of sucked.... i had to force my self to not eat as much.. i gave my self weekly goal weights where i tried to slowly lose like 0.1 kg per week or some thing (that's really slow but it makes it easier), and i stepped on the scale all the time and if i was over my weekly weight goal then i had to force my self not to eat, even if i wanted to.. i just had to force my self to be okay with that..

so, i don't know if the opposite is true, where you can force your self to eat stuff and just force your self to be okay with it?.. i mean, i don't know how else you solve the problem except gradually starting to eat more and start to slowly align your self with the ideal version of your self that is a healthy weight.. your body DOES need food.. your poor stomach probably thinks you live in a desert and wonders why it hardly gets any thing.. so what ever needs to change mentally for you to align your self to become healthier, it needs to eventually happen some how or else your condition isn't ever going to change.. how could it?.. it's like, no matter what therapists tell you to help you, it will eventually have to lead to you actually putting food in to your mouth and eating it and actually digesting it.. (i've never had any therapists though, but my thought on it is: all they can really do is yap at you, and i'm a pragmatic person that only benefits from real results or changes, so people yapping at me aren't going to do much to help me, but that's just me.. i know my self better than they do already any way.. they are just throwing random ideas at me, but they aren't going to have any better ideas than what i've already thought of my self with my 9000 IQ)..

it's the same for the other aspects in your life.. try to seek out things that you actually enjoy doing.. i have no idea what they would be.. if you like hanging out with friends then hang out with them more.. or there are video games, or chat rooms, or projects you could try working on together with your friends or family, or trying to start some business or side hustles together with them, or talking walks in parks or walking trails or riding bicycles or learning the piano or making music on the computer (using DAW software) or making videos or being a streamer or taking road trips or going to anime/cosplay conventions or exercising (after you are at a healthy weight) or going boating on the lake and water-skiing or playing disc-golf or just what ever.. but some thing has to change if you want your life to start feeling better..

i'm not saying a young person can't CTB if they really want to, but it's kind of a shame when they are completely physically healthy still and don't have any uncurable diseases or conditions like brain damage or stuck in a wheelchair or stage 5 butthole cancer or any thing because it feels like they have a lot of potential to do big things in the world still and be very successful and happy..

an other big reason people make it to older ages despite suffering is because they don't want to hurt people like their parents and siblings or friends etc with their death.. but i mean if a person is already suffering at 19 and don't expect any thing to get better then it's probably going to be a long time they're waiting before both of their parents are dead..

any way, that's all the advice i can think of at the moment.. some thing has to change here.. picture an ideal version of your self that you WISH you could be like, and then start to think of the logistics of what things have to change in order for you to align your self more with that ideal version of your self.. an ideal version of your self gives you a target to aim for to make sure you aren't just stagnating staying in the same state for ever which is just going to end up causing you to keep feeling this same way..

The ideal version of your self rocks..
Love and light..

I first attempted ctb at the age of 13 and two major ctb attempts at 15&16.

What I feel looking back at things.
If kids are trained to withstand stress and handle trauma since an early age, they can be immune to pain.. as the generations are changing, kids are becoming more and more sensitive due to which they can experience more pain than the previous generations for the same thing.

Secondly, parents and schools must be trained in child psychology so that they can raise a healthy happy kid

Thirdly, parents should not give birth to a child if either parents have any disease that can be transmitted to the child or if either parents have clinical depression. Even if they are alcoholic, they shouldn't.

I think these things can help reduce a lot of cases of depression and ctb

As far as, emotional pain is concerned, that can be solved with mental training

Anyone with Chronic or terminal illness in any age group should have the right to choose death and be allowed for assisted euthanasia so they can achieve peace from their illness.

That's my thought on the entire ctb when i look back at my own situations. If my parents, relatives and school knew how to treat kids,i wouldn't have developed the feelings to ctb.

I'm 23, my first suicide attempt was a decade ago and I've had multiple other ones since. I've had/had a sh addiction, BED, and just depressive states since that age. I don't really see a problem with suicide as a whole, I think it's a fundamental part of people's bodily autonomy and if someone has made an informed decision that they don't want to live anymore, they should be allowed to. I think societies should be more open to the idea of rational suicide, since depression is not caused by a chemical imbalance. One of the reasons I wanna go young is that I never planned to be an adult, when my peer were picking their career goals and schools, I was actively trying to off myself. That, and seeing posts from people in their 30s/40s talking about how they've been suicidal and depressed for years and decades... No thanks. I tried therapy, I tried 15 different psych meds, I used to believe in psychiatry, but I'm over that. I think some mental illness is terminal/permanent and I don't think it's helpful to keep pushing the narrative that of you take the right chemical cocktail and talk to the right person with the right approach, everything will click, your trauma will be healed and you'll be whole new person with a will to live.

I 100% relate to this. My mindset might be a bit warped, but whenever they talk about being sad if I died, I just think "maybe you shouldn't have traumatized me as a child if you didn't want me to be this miserable as an adult"

Psychiatry is usually a trap. Not many psychiatrists have the real skills to treat. I met multiple psychiatrists before finding one really good psychiatrist who recommended the right medicines.

An acquaintance of mine compared my psychiatrist to a med vending machine, she was really burnt out and just threw more and more medication at the issues I was having. I find it hard to believe psychiatry is about anything but making you numb enough to get back to work and shut up. When I was on antidepressants I stopped being able to cry to I started cutting more. It's counterproductive.

True..
My previous psychiatrist was just giving me ineffective medicine as I'm some guinea pig. Lol as these medicines take two weeks to show effect.. There's no option but to keep taking them..
Only a good psychiatrist can help.
My mother and brother also suffered from different types of clinical depression.. They were administered abilify after changing several psychiatrists, finally they are doing good

So are you on AD/psych meds currently? Do you feel they helped you? I mean, you're still on this forum, did they improve your daily functioning for example?

Well, my anxiety disorder had advanced into mdd. In april 2025, my state was i was feeling very weird and i was extremely restless+i used to drink alcohol every other day..
After i met my current psychiatrist, she advised some meds.. within a month, these symptoms vanished. As far as suicidal tendencies are concerned, i was given lithium for that, but as my suicidal tendency is a conscious decision rather than a state so no medicine can cure it.

However, aurum metallicum in homeopathy can help most of the members on sasu in stopping the suicidal feelings. Along with meds specific to their symptoms

I once saw an interesting quote: "You can't medicate a philosophy."

Isn't homeopathy a pseudoscience? I'm glad it works for people but from briefly looking into it, there's not much actual evidence behind it. I suppose placebo is very real, some trials with AD vs placebo saw people improving their symptoms with the placebo pills.

There is no right or wrong answer on this topic, as each and every individual is very unique upon themselves.

I could never use a broad paint stroke and say: "yup got the answer(s) to that or this".

I would have to look at each one and then try my best to help the person, as I feel one of the larger factors is always loneliness, I know it is for me.

Hugs and love to everyone.

WE are ALL family here.

as the generations are changing, kids are becoming more and more sensitive due to which they can experience more pain than the previous generations for the same thing.
I think it's also because these issues are being talked about more now which has led to us knowing about more people struggling with CTB thoughts than ever.

Now, we are in proximity with diverse people, diverse religion and diverse culture. Earlier as we lived in tight knit communities with people of same culture and religion, it was easier to accept that same form of life and same form of thoughts as those in our family and community. That might be why our parents coped better. They found answers in religious scriptures and religious teachers and accepted that as the ultimate truth. They would discard other religion and culture as "the other". But now we get to see different ways of living, different religion, different culture (all thanks to globalization and internet). And we can see that there are kind and unkind people in every religion and no religion is inherently unkind. We could also argue that globalization and internet access has worsened or maybe helped the issue too.

The more I read, the more I come to know that people in past have struggled just like us. I can remember reading Osamu Dazai's "No longer human" and seeing myself in the character so much. Dazai lived in the 1909-1948. I am currently reading "Notes from the Underground" and Dostoevsky seems to struggle with Depression too. Kafka and Sylvia Plath struggled with it too. These are people across different timelines and different countries . These are people who documented their struggle in some form and their writings have been preserved. They became popular too. There must surely be plenty of people from other nations, other religions, other ethnicities that must have struggled with mental health issues and suicidal ideation too. They might have documented their struggles and might not have gotten same level of recognition or they might have coped up in some other ways and medium.

Earlier in our parents generation, I am pretty sure there were tons of people that struggled like this. But people in our parents' generation used to cope with alcohol or religion or something else. But in our generation we are being introduced to these concepts about mental health and illness. We are being introduced to different religions and different ways of thinking. The stigma around mental health issues has lessened a bit. So, people are talking about it. But at the same time, the stigma hasn't lessened to the extent that we are being provided with proper help and resources. So we are stuck in a limbo where people act as if enough resources and help are available but we have not been able to properly access it.

I think the suicidal rate and mental health struggle cannot be ever calculated or quantified accurately. As for CTB, some people might have opted to die in ways that doesn't look like suicide. In the old days, the family of those who choose to CTB might definitely keep it as a secret. Moreover, due to lack of widespread access of autopsy, it could have been ruled out as some other forms of death.

These are just my thoughts.

That's true, a philosophy can't be medicated.

Homeopathy is not a pseudoscience.
I had ingested arsenic salt that i borrowed from my school chemistry lab and I was vomiting non stop. I was given arsenic alb 30 in homeopathy and within 10 minutes it acted. As it's alcohol based so some meds act very fast.
Homeopathy was created by a German allopath.
My maternal grandmother suffered from breast cancer, she was given 3 weeks to live. A homeopath took this challenge, and she lived for 3 years.
Why the medical fraternity has spread the word that homeopathy is placebo, so that their trillion dollar industry doesn't get affected due to homeopathy.

Most new homeopaths are ineffective as such.. most old homeopaths who have studied materia medica in detail are the ones who can help.
My ex was a homeopath too. She had good knowledge of it.

I'm jealous of younger people who can do that.
My single biggest regret is not doing it earlier. I have one specific point in which I was supposed to, and I often come back to it and everything makes sense. My current life? Doesn't.

i'm not saying a young person can't CTB if they really want to, but it's kind of a shame when they are completely physically healthy still and don't have any uncurable diseases or conditions like brain damage or stuck in a wheelchair or stage 5 butthole cancer or any thing because it feels like they have a lot of potential to do big things in the world still and be very successful and happy..

an other big reason people make it to older ages despite suffering is because they don't want to hurt people like their parents and siblings or friends etc with their death.. but i mean if a person is already suffering at 19 and don't expect any thing to get better then it's probably going to be a long time they're waiting before both of their parents are dead..

any way, that's all the advice i can think of at the moment.. some thing has to change here.. picture an ideal version of your self that you WISH you could be like, and then start to think of the logistics of what things have to change in order for you to align your self more with that ideal version of your self.. an ideal version of your self gives you a target to aim for to make sure you aren't just stagnating staying in the same state for ever which is just going to end up causing you to keep feeling this same way..

The ideal version of your self rocks..
Love and light..
thank you so much, i really appreciate the advice (and dw about the autism i have it too), ive done well to maintain my weight for the past couple of months instead of losing more, im still trying new things out of hope things will improve, ive also got other mental health diagnoses on top of this and im trying new things to see if anything can spark passion in me, but unfortunately ive not come across anything yet, youre right about the point around physical health, im very lucky that my physical complications from anorexia are quite minimal so far, i have digestive issues which do suck bc that does cause me near constant discomfort but that is tolerable most of the time, and my heart rate is fast + blood pressure low, i consider myself quite "lucky" in this aspect bc i have friends who are a similar weight and things are much worse for them

its strange bc i have decided to ctb and i have got a time set for when im going to start giving up supplies, but im trying not to give up on life in the meantime, i am trying to do new things bc you never know how things may change

im sorry that things are so bad for you at the moment and the tinnitus sounds awful, if youve decided to ctb, i hope you can find some peace in your final days, if not, then i hope you can find peace with living

If my parents, relatives and school knew how to treat kids,i wouldn't have developed the feelings to ctb.
this is going to sound really silly because ive decided to ctb but id have what was considered as quite a traumatic childhood, ive had therapists be surprised ive made it to university, and even cry when i told them my story, i think it made me somewhat stronger, but also weaker in some aspects, and wow ive got the double whammy here with a depressed mum + addict father, i agree that mental pain can go away with training, but unfortunately ive not seen results despite 7 years of treatment, i have tried very hard because this is such a big deicison to make and i am terrified of something going wrong and leaving me disabled but ty for the insight

well for me the problem is aging and societal pressures surrounding going further into adulthood ima be honest i js don't rlly wanna do this adult stuff like working and not having that "oh he's still a kid" leniency anymore so id rather js not be alive than work hard to get some half assed life where i can't even what do what i want like watch anime all day because that's what society tells u to do so i don't really know how im just supposed to get over that when like living itself for me quite literally opposes my personal beliefs and satisfaction

In general I tend to think they should at least wait until their brains are fully developed at age 25… but I suppose there are exceptions.

interesting, what do you think would make someone fall under an "exception"? (just curious to hear your thoughts)

The experiences I've had as a 21 year old are heavy enough and complex enough that I've had quite a lot of older people be surprised by how much has happened in so little time, so I don't doubt that someone else around my age can have experienced enough hardship to wish to ctb and have it be a rational decision
I'd argue someone under age could commit if their circumstances are hopeless since I cannot fathom to let a child suffer unnecessarily when they can't exit a situation, like for example constant daily abuse or sexual trauma or trafficking.. As much as I try to keep a hope that they could get out of it realistically they might not be able to nor live a normal life afterwards, so I would support their decision to end it if they chose to do so

Not sure I should go there. I will say your case is convincing. BUT, life can change SO MUCH in time, especially during the next few years. I would encourage that person who is even 99% sure they want to CTB to go with that 1% of doubt or hope or whatever it is and let at least the next few years play out.

There was one moment where I could have timed it and it would have been a nice poetic time to do so. I was 17 I think?
A decade later, same struggles. I don't think I would have missed out on much if I did it then. Just never have had the courage to, unfortunately.

Recently turned 30. Objectively I think anyone considered an adult should be given the autonomy and freedom to decide what to do with their lives.

But, if I had to give an opinion purely based on feelings, I think that young people should at least experience life a little more before CTB. Make a list of enjoyable things you wanna do before you die, and all that. Do some stupid shit or finish that thing you've been putting off. Meet new people and make friends.

Of course, not everyone can do this sort of thing because everyone has their own circumstances, but if you have the ability and the means I don't see a reason not to indulge a little before leaving.

Early 20s here and I have tried my best to pursue happiness and be content with life in everything I could possibly touch. A tone of different experience just to feel completely numb and empty at the end. Still I don't regret living all those lives and experience pain and all. I don't have a concrete plan to ctb cause it's very much depends on some external factors. But even if you give me 10+ more years, I don't really see the point of keep living and aging in this hell hole. For now I'll just do my best to go on with daily activities and if some people can show me how beautiful humankind and life is sometimes, it'd be a pleasant surprise and I'll cherish it. Otherwise, I have no expectations of anything at all.

And for the young adults plan to ctb, it's our choice. No one has the right to judge what's best for us especially if they haven't been through what we have. I just wish each one of us can make the best out of our time, like traveling and consuming and creating and loving and whatever that is we wish to do and can afford to do it. And if all we can do is bedrot, me right now, then it's totally fine too. Older people may think I have potentials and a lot to live for, but I myself have exhausted all those options before opting out of this existence.

Extreme Pain is much worse than people know

someone 18 could be suffering extremely and wants a way out

anyone should have the right to move away from suffering or to do what they want with their body as they own it

Junko furuta was 16 when they kidnapped and tortured her for 44 days . they'll say she is a child and can't decide that is a reason to kill herself

they use this "we have to protect the children" as a gateway to steal all our rights including the most important the right to move away from excruciating intolerable pain or unbearable suffering

an example is their "youth poisoning act" in the US about to pass that bans sn over 10% . they banned for everyone if it was about youths then why not age restrict alone

here a scientist shows proof they created adolescence and this "teenagers are children " out of thin air

and imo biology and evolution agree cause someone 13 can have children. but they say 13 is a child

now they r pushing this bs that below age 25 is a child. and people buy this lie even here when we seen other lies like that "everyone who wants suicide is irrational " : that's not real science but it's an evil lie

all 24 year olds are children : what a ridiculous lie
