You can create deep nude fakes with AI. In Europe there is legislation against that. And in theory using it on others is illegal. Even using it without sharing. But they cannot even get the companies who make a fortune with it. Most mainstream AI apps have regulations for preventing abuse. But this can be easily circumvented. And there are companies in specializing in deep fake nudes.

Today we talked about bullying in my self-help group. One woman (my former crush) was concerned because of this deep nude technology. A guy said to her this isn't that bad. Insults are way worse in bullying. Nudes will become worthless with this technology because noone will know whether they are real. I rather agreed with the woman that this is really concerning and it is opening a door for a lot of abuse, bullying, blackmailing. New technology makes the worst out of humans.

I talked with my friends about it in the past. One of them joked he would like to use it on his former crushs. I am not that much interested but from a sexual fantasy perspective I understand the allure. Leaving morals aside. I think it would not be worth the monthly subscription, committing a crime by using it. I photoshopped friends, bullies and former students we had with some apps. Not one single nude. But for example I switched faces of bodies. I only shared it in my closest friend group out of 4 people who don't share the meme material outside. It is some years ago I actually did that. I was more edgy to that time. But never did I create a nude. And I think I still would not do it.

In my self-help group I said there is probably a mass market for that, people are doing it already a lot in closed groups and that there ae some companies who are very involved in deep fake nudes and that this is a huge issue. I read some articles in newspapers about it. I used to worry about deep nudes from myself. But I realized I am a guy and noone is interested in that. Lol. Maybe bullies if I had some. I also talked with my friends about the 764 communities where people expoited vulnerable teenager to kill themselves or torture their pets blackmailing them with nudes. My friend did not understand why they were willing to go that far just to prevent that others see their nudes. I replied they probably searched for very vulnerable individuals. So you see the blackmail potential is huge.

I think it has the potential to change society. Probably for the worse. Pictures or videos could become worthless for proof. This causes a lot of issues.

For a woman I can very well understand why this technology worries them. I would be worried too. Even just using a dating app gives evil actors material for nudes in order to blackmail others. You cannot search for faces on google (or only limited). This is a measure to prevent searching for nudes of people. I could imagine this can also be circumvented.

We discussed what one can do. Someone said informing the poiice. I told him they will laugh you out of the room. I would contact google to demand to remove the pictures from their search enginge. There is an EU act which gives you the right to remove those pictures irreversibly. However, outside of search engines those pictures are probably saved on so many websites that it is close to impossible to fully get rid of them completely.

What do you think?

Not good, that's what I think about it. It's also weird to undress random people at will even if it won't look 100% like them. Let's have some respect for one another.

I think it's very concerning. I hadn't actually heard about it before but now I have, it doesn't surprise me at all- that it would have been created that is. I guess it's sexist to bet it was a guy that did it first.

It's not just about shaming or humiliating people either. I think the whole process of it will make it easy for (predominantly male I imagine) predators to ogle women without their consent. I think that's a troubling desire to feed.

Also, if it becomes a common practice- just because something is illegal, it can still catch on- who hasn't pirated music at some stage or, streamed something for free? Then, it just becomes accepted and expected. People may start to feel they have a right to see real people naked without their consent.

What if that isn't enough for some people? What if it simply feeds their desire to see the real thing? I'm not so sure that porn and now this always satiates sexual needs. Sometimes, it just seems to intensify them or, warp them.

As an extreme example, Ted Bundy actually warned everyone of the dangers of very violent porn. He began feeding his desires with media that catered to them- until that wasn't enough. I actually dread to think how this could be used for people with more perverted and dangerous desires to feed them and focus them on actual people.

Nudes will become worthless with this technology because noone will know whether they are real.
Unfortunately, this is not what would happen. Nudes aren't valuable because they're "real"; they're valuable because they're hot. If anything, all this does is question the legitimacy of genuine pictures/videos in serious scenarios where their legitimacy is important, which is what you've already mentioned

Plus, beyond deepfake nudes being blackmail material, I believe it also encourages unhealthy perspectives of human beauty. We've already seen how both plastic surgery and the Internet has distorted the public's perception of what beauty is. At least those are constrained by the rules of reality. However, the same doesn't apply to AI. If some guy wants to make a wildly unrealistic depiction of a woman with greatly exaggerated features, then he can, and if such images are circulated in the wider space of the Internet (which it inevitably will since that's just the nature of the Internet), it's entirely possible that people will start to set that as the beauty standard

At this point, I think my stance on deepfake nudes is obvious. I'm extremely against it

Interestingly, the algorithms are way better to create deep nudes of women compared to deep nudes of men. Probably because the customers demand more AI nudes of women. This is the main purpose of this technology. So you are not wrong with your Intuition that the business is mostly driven by men.

It feels like a huge perverse intrusion to me but then, I wonder if the psychology is different. As in, would some men be flattered that hundreds of women are desperate to see them naked? So, they don't see the big deal? I wonder in general if women find it more invasive/ predatory. That's probably too general though. I imagine there is more nuance to it. If women were more capable of raping a man and, did it more, I wonder if they'd feel the same way though. Like- actual rape. Not some hot dominatrix fantasy.

Obviously, I only have my own (female, straight) experience to go by but I think, women can be interested in more than simply looking at an attractive male body- when it comes to sexual arousal. I think women can be taken in by a storyline or situation. I expect guys can too. But, in that case- visual stimulation in terms of porn isn't even needed! There's enough material in our imagination.

I almost find it weird that a guy can be aroused simply by looking at a picture. I can obviously find a guy in a picture attractive but, a whole lot more goes on in my head before I fancy them. That could be upbringing though. I was taught that casual sex was some great sin. Not that I judge what others choose to do- so long as they aren't hurting others.

I think this will hurt other people though. I can just see it feeding fetishizing actual people's bodies- without their consent! Like potentially making everyone into a sex toy. I also worry that the men in particular most attracted to this sort of thing are ones where it really wouldn't be good to stimulate their desires more.

I understand why people would be nervous and perhaps scared of this. I don't think it will ultimately play out the way most think, though.

In the beginning it is going to be hard. Right now it's still kind of rare, so if someone makes deep fake nudes of you some people might share them and believe they are real, and even though you know they are not you will still feel exposed especially if they are accidentally somehow close to what you know you look like unclothed. So people in the beginning are going to have a rough time of it.

But over time, it's going to become like the "fake news" thing has... which is that there is so much fake out there that people now routinely doubt the real stories. Which is kind of what people in power want. They want you to believe everything is fake, so they can do real shit and get away with it. This will happen with the AI nudes. It will impact actual nude photos and the value of those nude photos will drop to zero because people will either believe them to be fake too OR can have fake ones for free that look no different to their eyes.

Right now, it's sad how many people are fooled by AI images because they all have obvious tells. Even the ones that look realistic, there's always something wrong or the tone/lighting or something is so obviously askew.. but the technology will get better.

For me, I have no interest in fake nudes. Even women I find attractive. If you post pictures of yourself or are in a movie or whatever, then I might want to see those... because you willingly participated which is tantamount to permission for everyone to see them. But I have zero interest in fake stuff. And weirdly, you see a lot of AI nudes of women who have published their own real nudes! Why are people faking nudes of women who have real nudes available? It's weird.

I think it's a little like going topless in other parts of the world... after a while no one cares. I think we will get there with the AI stuff eventually, where people will no longer care about nudes.

The scarier bit to me are the videos of people appearing to say/support things they really don't. When those get more difficult to discern from reality it's going to hurt a lot of people either by incriminating them and ruining reputations OR by making it hard to tell when videos are real... and a lot of bad people will be able to get away with stuff because what used to be proof will now be dismissed as potential fake.

I am not sure. First, maybe this is an American Perspective on Europe but going topless as a woman is still often seen as a sexual thing. Men take photos of it and put it on the Internet. That's a huge issue in clothing free places for bathing.

I think the right profits more from conspiracies than the left maybe except in the Epstein case. I think the DNC also uses the label conspiracy as a weapon but to a lesser degree than Trump.

At least in Germany only one party is massively involved in conspiracies. The far right. There are still incentives that gate keepers steer the public debate and I think for me this is the better approach than allowing internet companies to determine the rules. But Americans have a different take on freedom of speech. But the American news landscape is certainly more toxic and driven by profits than the German one. We have more public broadcasting.

In the EU they try to regulate AI to prevent the worst abuse to happen. Your scenario could happen in a completely unregulated scenario. I think though societal demise might happen if it plays out of that. Europe at least tries to Do damage Control. We all know though that the Americans have a stronger leverage when it comes to innovative technologies. The pitfalls are immense in developing AI and I agree maybe AI nudes are not the worst thing that come along with this Technology.

I mean, maybe it's a tangent example but it's truth... For all the US (my country) raging on the world that nobody should have nuclear weapons... we are still the only country to have ever used them against another country... and we absolutely use the threat of our possession of them against countries that do not... so I don't really consider us to be the morality police that our government would have the world believe.

I say that because... the government's involvement in AI is not ever going to be about protection of people or betterment of mankind. There are lots of good things that come from AI and we hardly ever talk about them because it's not hot entertaining news. If AI was integral in developing a cure for cancer, and it certainly could be, that would be a blip on the radar while a story about some celebrity fake nudes would make all the headlines.

I'm not trying to minimize the violation of privacy at all... but consider... there are perverts right now taking secret video and photos of people who do not wish to be seen naked like that... and we hardly ever hear about those stories anymore. When is the last time you can remember hearing about one of those as a major news story? But you know it hasn't stopped. And in those cases, actual privacy has invaded and real pictures of people are being shared that shouldn't be... but we're being fear-mongered against AI fake nudes as being worse somehow. At least the AI is fake. Real pervs taking real pictures is not big news anymore, despite all the women being hurt by that.

People are weird about the stuff that bothers us sometimes. I'm more concerned that someone might actually be bugging places I go and think I'm in private than I am someone might make fake pictures of me with AI.
