I've noticed that when I watch a show or a movie, usually the characters I hate actually have personalities or qualities that are similar to me. Wheras the characters I like have qualities that I do not have but wish I had. For example, one of my favorite characters of all time is Rengoku from Demon Slayer. I admire his bravery, kindness, and unwavering determination.

There's a show called Yellowjackets that is about a group of teenage girls (and two boys+one man) stranded in the wilderness after a plane crash. One of my favorite characters from here is Jackie Taylor, who I think reminds me of an old friend I had. And the character I dislike a lot is Shauna, her best friend who betrays her due to envy and resentment. But I actually see myself in Shauna. She doesn't have the courage to communicate her feelings with others, so instead she keeps it in until it grows into resentment. She admires, likes, and hates Jackie at the same time. And in the end, instead of becoming better, she lets herself become worse and likes it.

So what are some characters from media do you see yourself in? I'm very curious and bored so this should be a fun question to ask!

I relate a lot to you seeing yourself in the characters you dislike! For some reason right now I can't for the life of me think of an example, but I know I have hated characters in media and later realized it's cause they're most like me.

A positive example of a character I like is Finn from Adventure Time. I grew up watching the show and wrote my own story inspired by the Adventure Time world when I was like 12 or so, the main character was very like Finn and was basically just me as well.

I see a lot of my younger self in Finn and the AT world, I really craved that kind of chosen family and freedom and adventure that was portrayed in the AT world. But I was isolated, detrimentally naive, and profoundly lost in identity, among other things.

Not sure why yet, but when Finn says "It's me again, feels like its been years." I pretty much always cry, I don't know what cord that line is hitting with my internal self but it really burns.

every time there's a character I relate in media I usually end up getting very attached to another character that serves the role of supporting them somehow, at some point

like for example I relate to jinx/powder and my favorite character from arcane is vi

This post is probably cringe but I don't care,

A few months ago I discovered a fictional character who I'd say I see a lot of myself in, and that's Kiyoshi, from Hanazuki: Full of Treasures.

Just read his bio: "Kiyoshi is a highly sensitive, shy, anxious and a little bit bitter individual. He is so depressed, he has grown an entire forest of Black Treasure Trees." He sounds like me to a T.

In the show, different characters (called Moonflowers) grow different kinds of trees depending on their emotions, so for example, anger will cause Red Treasure Trees to grow, love is pink, jealousy is green, etc. Despair and misery grows Black Treasure Trees, and Kiyoshi being a very pessimistic, depressive character, has an entire forest of Black Treasure Trees surrounding him... and I guess if I were a Moonflower, I too would be lost in a Black Treasure Tree forest of my own making, because I'm depressed af.

The characters you mentioned are super cool!

I love yellowjackets so much, I see myself in Natalie because of her toxic home life. She also hates her dad so we can relate on that part too lol

Another character would be Touko from Danganronpa series. We both have a lot of self image issues lol
