Hey everyone. India still hasn't restricted access to SN but I fear that the online company/seller will ask me about my requirements/reason-for-purchase.

Can anyone help me out. What should I tell them in case they ask about it? It is important because I'll get only one shot at this because the website verifies using PAN/Passport before selling and if I'm caught, I don't think I'll be able to get it easily again.

Are you physically in India or are you ordering from India?

I would be very careful when it comes to sharing your passport and personal details with an online retailer.
They may claim it's for safety, but you don't want your identity being stolen.

I'd rather look for a seller who doesn't require this amount of personal info.

@wljourney I'm from India. At this point, I'm not really worried about my identity being stolen to be honest.

Also, I did test the website though. Placed an order for a cleaning material, paid for it and cancelled the order. They called me up, inquired about the reason for cancellation and refunded the amount few days later. So i assume they are a genuine business.

They have two types of SN, "AR" and "LR". I suppose AR is more pure since comparatively, it's more expensive but both are really cheap, like less than $10 for 500 grams.

@natali4 could you elaborate more on this? Indians tend to eat very less amount of meat, this answer could raise some suspicion i think.

SN is usually used to cure meats like pork, beef etc. to prevent spoilage and bacteria. So you could probably just say you want to use it for food preservation because you cook a lot or are in the restaurant business, or something like that. I don't know what are some other common uses of SN.

@natali4 Pork and beef, both meat are rare in India. Mostly Indians eat chicken and goat. Is it used on these two types of meat as well?

Forgive me for being so pesky. I'm just anxious.

I believe so. But I am not too sure if it can be used for all kinds of meat. Sorry, I wish I could be of better help.

SN is used mainly for curing sausages like Italian Salama or Mortadella or German Summer Sausage. I don't think that is a common food in India.

You can google how SN is used for fabric dying. I believe that would be a more plausible use?

Yup. Looks like I'll have to be more creative myself. Gotta web search for a few days.

Also, I suppose the SN used for meat would not be this pure!

SN used in meat production would be mixed with other ingredients, yes.
It would be used very (!) sparingly and likely mixed with normal salt at a ratio of 0.5gram per 100g. So a bottle of 500g pure SN would last a VERY long time for a hobby sausage maker or chef.

Fuk, all the reason I should avoid saying this.

I think I'll just say that it was ordered by mistake in they make a call. Meanwhile, I'll search for a 'safe' chemical with a similar name.

There are reliable international suppliers out there for SN. If your order doesn't work out, I am sure someone here will help out with ideas. Connect with others and you'll find the info you're looking for.
Also: read the PPeH. It's really informative and helps a lot to understand the most peaceful and safest options.

CTB should not be rushed. Take your time to make the best choice.
