skip to the bottom if you don't want EternalShore's story time~ ✨ xD

alright, so about 2 and a half ago, I took measurements for a dress I got that cost over $100~ :) It's very nice, altho I've noticed that I have a lot more trouble fitting into than I did back then unfortunately~ :( As a result of all this, I did expect that my shoulders had grown some~ In addition, recently, I got inspired to start building up muscles in more appealing parts of my body to attract guys~ Then, after seeing some middle school girls were even thinner than I am (I've always been very thin as a result of undiagnosed ARFID), I retook some of my measurements today~ And well, they suck garbage~ :/ my waist went from 26 inches to 28 inches~ eeeee~ >_< My shoulders grew another 0.25 inches~ That's not very much, but when my shoulders are actively screwing me out of or making smaller clothes more uncomfy (like that dress), are embarrassingly wide, and are are already wider than my waist, even that feels so bad~ >_<

On the bright side, my hips grew by 1.75 inches, my chest grew by 0.75 inches, and my thighs grew by 0.75 inches~ however, those hardly matter when my waist grew more than all that~ aaaaa~ >_< I'm also still underweight I'm pretty sure, altho idk~ :/ I just want better proportions~ >_< I don't care about all that! altho, something else I'll say is that I got called chicken legs in high school, and whenever I didn't wear long sleeves or glasses, people would definitely comment like "Oh..." :((( I asked a guy recently about my arms, and he said they're fine tho, altho idk about that either~ regardless, I don't think guys look at your arms to judge your attractiveness~ altho, them going butt>breasts>waist>face is hardly better~ >_<

btw, the exercises I've been doing have been about every other day: 50-60 squats, 50-60 glute bridges, and 100-120 flutter kicks~

anyways, so does anyone know how to continue reduce waist size while increasing other proportions or like any ideas to help with any of this~? thank you~ ^_^

I've heard russian twists can be really neat working in like a few weeks of doing it. Otherwise reducing your waist is pretty hard since it's kinda built into your body composition with your ribcage (bones) being part of it, trying to loose weight in general might make it easier to appear to have a smaller waist. You can also try a waist trainer although it only works temporarily if you just want to dress pretty or see yourself like how you imagine them it'd work I believe.

As a general rule for fitness, you should focus on proper nutrition and rest in addition to your workout routine. "Abs are made in the kitchen" is a popular saying for a reason.

I'm not exactly sure which exercises are best for shrinking the waist, as diet and genetics play a strong role in such things, but I might recommend engaging in more compound bodyweight exercises that can engage multiple muscles at once for maximum efficiency and core engagement.

For example, I might consider incorporating reverse lunges, mountain climbers, standing side reaches, and possibly planks. I think those could engage your glutes and abs simultaneously, as well as your legs and even arms a little bit.

When I was working out for wrestling, I was mostly focused on heavy compound weight lifts with some bicep curls and a few ab exercises for aesthetics, so I might be a little out of my depth on this subject.

I hope you're able to find what works best for you.

alright~ ^_^ I'll keep Russian twists in mind for if I ever have access to a medicine ball! :)

alright! I'll keep waist trainers in mind too~ ^_^ When I searched it up, it said they could cause some of risks of making you weaker and moving all your organs around~ >~< I suppose that's why you said it'd be temporary! :)

if only 8 hours of sleep were possible while still permitting the doing of fun stuff with a bad work schedule~ >_<

oh, yeah, I tried planks today as a result of what you said! :) I used to be really good at them~ >~< altho, I'll say that I feel like I'm going to break my feet when I bend them like you would with lunges and mountain climbers unfortunately~ >_< woah~ I thought standing side reaches were yoga-related! Not an exercise! xD that's good to know~ >:3

alright, well, thank you for your advice anyways~ ^_^ it sounds like you must be really strong if you were doing wrestling~ :3

I've been working out for a while now and I feel like I've maybe reduced my waist even more on accident. I've always had a tiny waist (I need to pick XS shorts every time) and now it seems even smaller, but mby that is bcs the rest of my body changed sm, idk. I think the most satisfying part abt working out is seeing your body change so much, to the better usually, it's wild looking at older pictures. Unfortunately I don't have any tips for you tho, but I hope you find the right exercises and achieve your goal

I should have put more consideration into how advanced some of the exercises I mentioned were before posting, and then listed them accordingly. If you're able to do 50-60 squats and glute bridges, and 100-120 flutter kicks, you've got a solid foundation already from which to develop, and should be proud of yourself.

I agree that lunges and mountain climbers feel tough on the feet and ankles. When I was trying out for a wrestling program once we had to do mountain climbers until failure as part of conditioning, and it was difficult to walk the next day (when we had to do it all over again).

I was actually not aware that standing side reaches were a yoga exercise, but apparently they are. I should look into yoga more some time.

alright, well, thank you for your advice anyways~ ^_^ it sounds like you must be really strong if you were doing wrestling~ :3

Due to a tremendous amount of work and a little bit of genetic proclivity, I was very strong and athletic at one point. Unfortunately, after an almost comical number of injuries (namely repeated concussions), I've been reduced to nothing. I understand now why men in ages past spoke so highly of dying in battle.

Good luck on achieving your fitness goals!

ah, oki! Thank you for clarifying! :)

aww~ :( that sucks~ :( yeah, I guess I can see why too~ 'tis better to perish when you're at your most beautiful or most strong rather than live a life well into old age, retirement, and pain~ I think some Japanese guy made a quote about that~ tbf, I bet a bunch did~

I thought concussions were just a football thing, but ig not~ personal opion, but I really wish we banned sports that cause those~ :( it cause brain damage for the rest of one's life, and being smart is very important in modern society, therefore, making those sports career sewer slide if one gets too many concussions~ >_<

Thank you~ ^_^ I hope so too! :) It'd be nice, even if I haven't learned much more than I knew already~ :)

when you exercise a part of your body, it builds muscle in that specific area. however, when the body burns fat it doesn't take fat from any specific area, but uses fat from throughout the body without respect to what's being exercised. where fat is stored is genetically encoded, so the only way to reduce fat in your waist is to reduce fat everywhere. the only way fat loss happens is by operating at a caloric deficit, so expending more energy than you gain from food is the overall goal (every weight loss meathead is just a different way to achieve this). when you're in a caloric deficit, your body starts breaking itself down to make up for the increased energy needs. it's important to note that while it prioritizes burning fat, it also burns muscle a bit along with it. if you run out of fat and are still at a deficit, it'll start burning muscle a lot, which should be avoided.

what this boils down to is that you should do lots of cardio (things like walking and running) as it's the fastest way to burn energy, but also do strength training (like lifting weights) to protect your muscles from being broken down by the cardio. doing 50-60 squats, 50-60 glute bridges, and 100-120 flutter kicks is good, it leaves out strength training for your upper body and doesn't have enough cardio (the flutter kicks are cardio, but I don't think it's sustained enough to have a profound effect). I would recommend adding an upper body strength exercise (like push-ups) and adding sustained cardio, like running, jogging, or cycling (this is important for the caloric deficit part). honestly I'm not super knowledgeable about what specific exercises are best for each category, I just know the theory side of things because I'm in biology.

as for increasing other proportions, there's no way to add fat to a specific area, but you can add muscle. look up strength training exercises specific to the particular places where you want to build muscle.

Here is a Japanese writer discussing this subject:

He had never looked forward to the wisdom and other vaunted benefits of old age. Would he be able to die young—and if possible free of all pain? A graceful death—as a richly patterned kimono, thrown carelessly across a polished table, slides unobtrusively down into the darkness of the floor beneath. A death marked by elegance.
