Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

In Australia, the number of Veterans and military service men / women who have committed suicide, is way higher than the total number of casualties in both the Afghanistan and Iraq wars combined.

Just thought I'd share that absolutely horrifying fact with you all.

Whether or not you agree with the politics and the wars themselves, please show your support for all the men and women who have risked their lives in service, doing what they are told is right, and what they believe to be right.

Many of them are taken advantage of, have their lives destroyed, and are never given compensation for all the trauma and suffering they endure.

But by show support, I don't mean attending dawn services, or any lip service ritual that might play into the hands of those who orchestrate this shit. Not the "lest we forget" war culture itself. I mean if you meet a veteran, If you know any actual defense force servicemen / women, show them your understanding, support and appreciation.

Very thoughtfully written GentleJerk. It's the 40th anniversary of the Falklands War this year, more veterans have taken their own life's than died in that brutal war also. They don't get enough support when they are back home. Bloody system/ politicians.

Thanks. Agreed, It's embarrassing the lack of support our government provides veterans and their families, after they've devoted their very lives.

The politicians ask too much of our service men and women, and offer little in return when they are broken, with charities picking up the pieces, donations from the general public who do care.

That's a frightening but equally understandable statistic. Remember one of my tutors saying- human beings aren't supposed to kill one another. They are desensitised to be able to do it. Subject to seeing truly horrific things, then expected to re-integrate back into society on their return (if they return). It's no wonder they go on to suffer PTSD. How can you even heal after seeing/participating in atrocities? Even if you believe you are fighting the good fight?

It just sickens me that as a species, we do this to one another. On the one hand, it seems so senseless but on the other, I just don't know the answer. How can all disagreements be stopped peacefully?

Just saddens me that it's the ordinary people who end up suffering. Should be the psychopathic leaders we lock in a room together to sort out their differences.

99% of wars are fought for the acquisition of resources and power, or maintaining resources and power. Regardless of what they tell you. Mankind needs to evolve beyond this predatory phase, and declare the earth and everything in it, common heritage of all the worlds people. We have the science and technology right now to solve most of our issues and create an abundance for all. The people whose greed and vested interest keep us marred in scarcity and subdued in debt, are actually surprisingly small in number, but they weild a lot of power that they are unlikely to relinquish willingly. Change will probably happen from the bottom up, as usual. Either that, or, we're all fucked and the planet is doomed.

Yes, I feel like this too. A part of me even wonders whether some wars are orchestrated by those super rich few with power. I know that's straying into conspiracy theory land but I'm certain there's shit loads of money in 'defence' contracts. Plus, people are more subdued and compliant when they live under a level of outside threat.

That line in the second Sherlock Holmes film from Moriarty sums it up: '...All I want to do is own the bullets and the bandages.'

Definitely companies earning huge fortunes from these illegal or pointless wars. Psychopathic power mad politicians also becoming filthy rich. It does just seem a game to these people at the top, a power trip for them to remembered in the history books.

Idk how it is there but here in the US it's the same way. They just use them up and then put them back into society once their no longer needed with all the trauma and PTSD and most can't function as a normal person after the experience. There's lots of veteran suicides here in America as well as homeless vets. It's a sad epidemic that needs to be addressed.
