Which setting determines whether your name is explicitly mentioned or not under a specific thread? Is it the privacy setting "Show your online status?"?
Only a few names are explicitly mentioned under a thread. I am not sure whether my name is shown there for other people.

For the people who consciously decided to change the setting for that which were your motives for that?

I think I once saw your name under a thread of mine. Maybe it is just random which user names are shown. But I am not completely sure. Maybe there is no option to disable that... just another mystery this forum provided us...

I think seeing your own name under a thread is always on. You could be right with your theory though.

When I registered on the forum, I was just exploring the settings to see what was there. I'm not paranoid, so they can watch me if they want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can probably see my name at the bottom of the thread now. At first, I thought it was always like that because I could always see my own name but now I'm not so sure because I checked my settings and realized that in the privacy options, somehow the part that says "Show your current activity" was unselected for some reason. I clicked it just in case but beforehand, I don't know if people could see what threads I was viewing. I honestly like the idea of people being able to see my current activity.
