You can now...

• Change your username:
  • Go to your account details and you'll see the option to change your username.
  • You can only change it once per every 60 days, so choose wisely!
  • Your old username will be displayed in your profile next to your current one.
• Choose your own rank color:
  • Go to your account details and you'll see the various ranks available for you to choose.
  • There is no requirement to use any. Change anytime, all you want.
  • More ranks will be added over time, if you have any suggestions leave them below! (Including cool CSS transitions and combinations if you're into that)

Apparently it shows your old username somewhere after the change. So it might not be as useful as you think for this purpose.
