Uni accommodation opened my sealed post

I've recently had to leave uni cus of my awful health and whilst my uni is still in the same union (so same laws) it's in a different country so we've had to have my stuff sent back by courier because there wasn't enough space in my luggage when I left.

At the time I left some of my mail was still in transit. And this included my medication and it was a rather large amount. Essentially something I could use to ctb if I wanted. The couriers service wouldn't transport medication but I figured since the parcel wasn't open (it was sealed and everything) it might just slip under the radar.

Well the people at the uni had other plans and opened the mail that was sent there (addresses to me, no one else). And I'm pretty sure that's illegal. Like that's my private stuff.

I'm in the process of trying to get the medication back but I'm worried someone may and try and contact my parents abouts this which I'm sure would also be illegal seeing as I'm an adult and they're already breached my privacy once.

If I were you I would tell them that they just broke a law and better give the meds immediately if they don't want a lawsuit. It's none of the uni's business about whether you can or can't ship meds

Yeah 100% illegal, serious violation if you're in USA/UK, would go with what Ankou said and they should give in once they speak to their HR.

They're actively refusing to ship them now despite me finding a courier who would have been able to pick them up. I can't file a complaint though as they uni has my parents contact details and will most certainly contact them about this.

They've fucked me over big time.
