When I was in the Army National Guard, soldiers throughout the Army were heavily Republican, but even more so than that, patriotic -- and that was a decade before 9/11, when the military went ultra patriotic. A dictatorship is not patriotic in the US mentality. I know he's been screwing around with what forces he can call in for the protests, but he's been using forces under DHS control like border patrol, who dressed like military. There's definitely some weird shit going on. I wondered why there weren't major protests when it first came out that Russia had interfered in the election.

As a satellite of Russia I imagine our way of life will completely change to resemble the hardships Russia faces. Russia is a very weak troubled country in almost every way. Their president is reportedly the richest man in the world rivaling Jeff Bezos. Imagine the plundering of our economy by Trump and his band of criminals with no one to stop him.
Don't think he doesn't have his eye on all the ways he can do that.

Good point. But there would be serious political ramifications from even getting to that point, if it does get there- full on constitutional crisis level. Trust in our institutions already seems to be at an all time low, having to have the military step in to stop a coup certainly wouldn't help the situation. The scarier part is that a significant portion of the population probably wouldn't even see it as a dictatorship, they would just see further proof that the "deep state" is repressing their voice in a rigged election. To them, Trump is the true patriot, and the only thing stopping the radical left from destroying the country (like the obvious super-Marxist: centrist liberal milquetoast Biden). At least, I think that's what Fox News is currently saying. Most of the people talking about patriotism right now are at the weird juncture of populism and nationalism- including most of the GOP who still haven't grown the balls to stand up to Trump, despite him repeatedly disregarding the constitution they claim to hold so dear. I'll be interested to see if these patriots come to their senses.

More importantly, how do you keep a country together when one side believes that one man is single-handedly protecting the American Dream, while the other sees a wannabe fascist intent on tearing it down? How do you keep the country together when this battle could be dragged on for months in Congress, in the courts, and in the streets with everyday citizens? I could be catastrophizing, but I don't see either side just lying down and taking whatever happens.

There is a faction of Trump supporters that WANT Trump to be dictator, that openly express a desire for a FASCIST USA.
I don't know how big this faction is, but it exists, and it's large enough that it worries the hell out of me.

I won't be voting this election. I think both candidates are clowns. I haven't voted since '04. It's all a sham, an illusion. Whether or not Trump wins there will be protests and rioting and then Trump will declare martial law, and order the military to control the rioting. The power to declare martial law, which means anyone can basically be arrested and thrown in jail, will put the citizens on notice they will be arrested thrown in jail never to be seen again, just like they do in China and Russia and N. Korea. The military will fall in line with all this for the same reasons they do in other dictatorships.
They too will be thrown in jail if they don't comply. It's the law they have to do what the president says. He is the commander in chief. In essence his power is total and complete.

Is there definite concrete evidence for this though?
As far as I am aware, US intelligence agencies have said that russia did not interfere with actual vote numbers in 2016. So, no one was forced to vote one way or the other, and when they did cast their vote, it was all tallied up in the correct way.

Whether it's russia interfering through disruptive propaganda dissemination, or homegrown propaganda for one party or another party, it's all a sham anyway.
Same people who are left behind and trampled on, same small group who benefit.

We saw how willingly the military went about kidnapping citizens off the streets in unmarked cars, without any identifying badges, at Trump's orders. Helicopters were used, rubber bullets were used, gas was used, on peaceful protesters. I assume that will happen again on a larger scale. No one refused, no one stopped Trump, so he knows he can literally do whatever he wants to do.

I haven't seen anyone stop him from doing anything yet and don't expect it will happen.
