I can't tell you how many times I've stood on that stool, rope around my throat... and only be able to tip-toe into it like it's a chilly pool.

How do I just do it?!
It sounds so easy on paper, just take a step but it's, so, so, hard in practice. SI are a bitch.

are there any good ways to get past this?

I dont think there are really any tips anyone can give. When you know you are ready to do it, you will take that leap of faith.

I have faced the same issue, more than once. I know that once I step off it is over but I just can't do it. Part of me is afraid of a painful hanging while another part doesn't want to let go. I have even taking bezodiapenes to help me relax. I know that one of these times I will succeed but I just don't know when that time will be.

Been practising partial these days. That feeling of your head about to explode is awful. I've been feeling dizzy and had headaches since my last practise session. But I got used to the feeling of the belt aroudmy neck

I posted a video in another thread on hanging - if you do partial hanging until you start blacking out, then stand up you apparently instantly black out as the blood pressure drops in your brain - then you hang because you're out cold with a rope around your neck and all your weight on it.

Allegedly.

I am going to be using this method. I hope that I will just be able to calm myself down enough to do it. It's hard to comment on dealing with the fear before I have experienced it. Unfortunately if I do manage to overcome it I won't be around to tell you about how I did it.

Hey! I'm writing this from personal experience, because I had the same issue as you! I stood on that milk crate just begging myself to get off...I swore I was ready to die, yet somehow I just couldn't do it!
What happened to me was I would step one foot off and then put it back on a few seconds later. That (combined with fast breathing from nervousness) actually caused me to pass out and fall off the crate! The only reason I survived is because this was an attempt in a very small space, so my convulsions caused me to climb back up on the crate. But if you have more space than I did, your unconscious convulsions might just make you kick the stool far enough away that you can't get back on at all.
As for what it felt like...it was as peaceful as people say. I didn't even remember blacking out at all - I faded into a purely black, pleasant dream. The panic set in once I'd climbed back onto the crate, but if you can't do that, then I don't think that would happen at all.
Best wishes to you (╹◡╹)♡

Alcohol maybe?
I plan on setting everything up and then getting smashed to drown that stupid survival instinct.

Are you into Metal? Try blaring some really loud, hardcore Death Metal as loud as it will go. Work yourself into a frenzy. Maybe that will help?
