Hypothetically, how viable is suicide by jumping off a cruise as an option?

Even if you dont jump from a high spot you'd be left in the water, if ur not rescued it'd work pretty well, right? If u survive the repercussions would suck, but isnt the the same for any sort of jumping method? Plus, I feel like chillin on a cruise before you do it would be nice.

I understand that statistically it's more often than not fatal.
There was a story in the news recently of a father jumping in after his daughter (about 5 yr old i think) who fell overboard. Other passengers raised the alarm and they were both rescued, which the news reports said was rare.
The things can't stop or turn easily, takes a long time / distance.
At night, especially without anyone knowing, and its likely a done deal I would think.

I have no idea. If you can swim, probably unlikely unless nobody will notice you. If somebody notices you and manages to help, you'll likely grab the whatever it's called floaty thing even if you want to die.

I'm a huge huge huge fan of cruises! So I can see why this would be a nice option especially with a few days to relax first

The consequences for "failure" seem like they might be pretty bad. I've only heard of 1 case of someone surviving falling off. A quick google said it's 17-25% survival but that's also factoring in that those people would want to be saved. If this is your plan maybe you can look into extra steps that would make being rescued less likely like at night time or something to reduce your SI.

Only other thing I want to point out is your body would likely not be recovered if that's something important to you. But there is something beautiful about resting in the ocean too.

Horrific way to go. Completely stranded, hypothermia.I also have a fear of deep water and sharks. Not for me.

Then I prefer the other option where one of the users here is a scuba diver.He was planning to catch the bus by just diving deep slowly. It's a very peaceful way to go.

A cruise ship will just keep on going, it can't do anything else. You become a dot on the horizon very quickly, then lost. I suppose if the alarm is raised straight away and they deploy a lifeboat that can see and reach you is the only hope. Or being close enough to shore where the local coastguard can get to as well. If not, game over.
As others have posted, Internet/wiki etc says less than 30% of people survive, more like 25%. At night, 1%. Cold water will drastically reduce the time window in which you can be saved too.
And these are accidents where they want to be saved.

If nobody notices you jump, you have very little chance of surviving.
