How do you guys feel about industrialized factory farming? How many animals out there do you think want to CTB but just like us are trapped and unable to do so because of SI or lack of means?

Is it wrong that we raise and imprison animals against their will for profit and our consumption?

Is human suffering uniquely distinct from animal suffering?

Are they capable of experiencing injustice the way we do?

As far as i know there's no such thing as animals willingly wishing to take their own lives and actively thinking about anything suicide related

Humans are really selfish and in some religions, it's told that animals were created for humans to use and domesticate😐 what a crap.

I totally resent poultry and dairy industry because they are ruthless. I also resent sacrificing animals for religious rituals.

I'm not vegan yet, but i try my best.
I have stopped consuming dairy products.. i ensure my shoes is not made of leather.
While eating, i don't eat chicken or meat even fish
I'm not able to leave egg because that's prepared at my home and i can't stop them from that.. but when ever i live alone, i avoid it.

But animals definitely can sense what is going to happen to them

As a 7 year old kid, i saw how brutally the chicken was murdered. It was a traumatic scene for me. I reduced eating chicken from that day, even when it was my favourite to eat.
I can't kill an animal for my taste buds.

"The Hedonistic imperative" make a claim that we should't stop at outlawing factory farming and ceaseing to eat meat but also genetically re-engineer predators so that the animal kingdom can continue to exist without neverending fight for survival (it would result in disrupting the food chain and in the long term the entire biome. Which would reguire re-designing biome too...)

Now this is a subject that I know a little bit about.

Back in the mid 1960's and early 1970's I was raised on a working dairy farm. We had machine milkers instead on having to do it by hand, but beyond that, it was 100% manual labor.

All our beef cattle, dairy cattle, hogs and chickens were free range. Now we were a small operation, however, I could never stand to see a hog or chicken in a wire cage, way too inhuman for me period.

Now, I have to admit that everyone wants cheaper groceries and with that said, that is one of the reasons of "industrial" farming. Like I buy organic fruits and vegs and cage free everything and just for me here in the U.S. my grocery bill per week is about $100 or higher and then add a family to that and it can become way too expensive.

I am dumb as a rock and I for the life of me could never figure out how to have free roaming and lower prices in the stores, counterintuitive.

NEVER EVER snotty, not in my DNA, but I have had folks at work dumbfounded why I spend so much on food.

Cheap prices and factory framing, I guess.

Makes me sad thinking of poor farm animals in wire cages, not right period.

Walter

suicide doesn't reside in the instinct, but reason, from being able to reflect in one's own condition and think from the self (ego). Animals don't experience the ego, they experience survival. I've worked with animals, mostly reptiles, amphibians and mammals. They exist and fight until their body gives out.

As far as science goes, animals such as poultry don't possess the self-awareness that can lead to the contemplation of shame, guilt, suicide, etc. I'd actually be more concerned about the humans going through genocide and workers being exploited and killed on the job than poultry being industrialized.

I remember seeing videos of either cats or dogs depressed on YouTube. It was even in a laboratory setting where research was being done too. It had commentary of psychologist or someone knowledgeable as well.

The animal wasn't eating food. It wasn't due to some physical ailments. It wasn't eating food at all which could signify that it is likely awaiting for death. In a way that is suicidal ideation. Passively suicidal maybe or even actively as it is refusing food.???

If they are capable of being depressed, I think they might be capable of having suicidal ideation too.

I feel like we haven't really come close to researching let alone understanding animals on any front or matter. So much remains to be studied. We haven't fully researched humans as well ( Fully researching anything or any subject might not even be possible). Hence, we grapple with our struggles daily with no one to understand us.

Generally, we place human to be one and the rest of the animals is the other. However, even the animals are very distinct from each other as they are distinct to human. I think animals might be capable of feeling much bigger things than we attribute them to. I think they might be far more intelligent than we give them credit for.

These are the videos.

I also remember reading about a swan in England dying of broken heart after some teenagers brutally smashed her nest. Her partner leaves the nest due to extreme stress. The swan was later found dead next to her last unmatched egg. I remember reading more about tales where one animal's partner dies and the other follows suit due to broken heart.
