Hard to answer as we cant communicate with those lucky ones who managed it and im guessing some wernt pain free.

If it was that simple more ppl would jump off buidings, in front of trains etc so I think as ive said to my 'normal' friends suicide isnt easy ?

I can't answer this question or determine, but I can say it depends, because even with factorizations, it's all about inner strength and just giving up completely, so the person who did succeeded might've came from those thoughts and feelings, but truly what made them get through it is deciding to be in their grave and be numb all while accepting true pain, because it hurts so badly... when physical pain is no longer a problem but the emotional one that hinders your survival

Some got lucky. Others succeeded when life got tough enough they just did it.

Indeed. I know a guy who survived a jump from the 9th floor, and one who succeeed from the 8th. So it all really depends on your "luck".

Maybe determination plays a role in it a little bit but also making a fool proof plan also I would think is helpful. If you truly want to CTB you have got to do your research and find a plan with a high probability of success. It's not easy to CTB as the body is a great survivor…. and unfortunately there are a lot of "heros" out there that could foil even the best of plans.

No, sometimes it's just dumb luck. Some people who succeed probably didn't even really want to die. It's also about availability and accessibility to methods.

It really is just luck. People have died from ibuprofen overdoses, or other not really lethal methods. Some survive more lethal ones. I remember hearing a story a few years ago about how a woman tried to kill herself by throwing herself in front of a train, but lived because somebody pushed her into the tracks to save her. It gave her a head injury and made her end up as a vegetable. I doubt determination had anything to do with that.

Also, they may have been more desperate. Some people literally back themselves into a corner where they'll suicide because they're about to become homeless etc. Sometimes I wonder if life does actually need to become more frightening than death in an imminent sense to get over all the fears around suicide. I expect that makes a person very determined. Not advocating doing that of course.

I suppose I'd want to follow the pattern of those most determined to go in a practical sense. Those who have two or more methods set up and who follow protocols as closely as possible. I really feel like I need my first attempt or, first round of attempts to be successful.

Determination is absolutely the key that distinguishes those who successfully carry out a planned suicide from those who do not. Unlike impulsive acts, which stem from a moment of despair, a planned suicide involves a mental reprogramming process that occurs over time, with consistency and perseverance. In this process, individuals overcome inner conflicts and fears, being primarily influenced by cultural and environmental barriers rather than natural limitations.

Hard to say... Sometimes people get lucky, or unlucky depending on how you look at it. I think it's just another one of life's cruel jokes when people survive suicide attempts, particularly if they end up with lasting trauma/injuries/conditons. Everything is ultimately meaningless and up to random chance. Or if there's a god or gods, they sure do like watching people suffer

I think intelligence and awareness play a big part. I have low intelligence and self awareness, and I keep avoiding ctb despite hating existing, and knowing my future is doomed. I put my head in the sand and procrastinate. More intelligent and self aware people suffer more, and see the futility more clearly, and therefore take the logical/necessary action to end their suffering.

Alternatively, there are highly impulsive people, who are able to succeed in a moment of impulsivity. I'm not intelligent, impulsive, or very self aware. The walls will have to keep closing in on me, and the suffering increase so that ctb becomes the easy and logical choice.

A mix of timing and determination. If the timing is right and the means are ready, the chances of success are greatest when in the right frame of mind. To be prepared for this alignment of time, means and mindset should be key, like the final piece of a puzzle finding its place and feeling "right" about the whole picture.

I think it's determination, research, testing (for certain methods), patience and luck of course. It really isn't something that one should rush to do if it is to be done right.

Yes, I agree although I suffer a lot cause I have low intelligence. But I agree being highly intelligent would make it easier to ctb as they understand the science on how to succesfully ctb

@Groundhog_Day and @divinemistress36 How are you low intelligence!? Reading your posts shows that you understand more then most people I know.

@Groundhog_Day just because you avoid CTB doesn't mean that you're not intelligent, it only shows that you're afraid, which is a pretty normal reaction. We all experience different kinds of fear depending on the chosen method and other various factors otherwise these forums would empty pretty fast.

@divinemistress36 You suffer because of the fucked up stuff that's been done to you, not because you're not intelligent. If anything the suffering shows that you understand what happened and the fact that you don't repress it shows courage, courage to face the truth.
