Hello all, back from long hiatus after failed attempt. Was formed into hospital after attempt and currently being babysat to make sure I don't try again. Honestly, I feel like shit and have been writing a note - but at the same time I want to see if there could possibly be a future for me.

Here's the kicker. Therapy. Been there, done that multiple times, and it just makes me feel worse talking about my trauma and depression. Plus you always have to watch your words so they don't cart you back to the hospital. It's so stressful that I don't really want to go back, but its part of my agreement with the hospital and my aunt (who I'm living with) is insisting I go. Currently on Zoloft too but it hasn't been doing anything. Any tips on how to make therapy more bearable? Gf wants me to go but it's really difficult (especially because I have agoraphobia and need someone to take me places). Any help would be appreciated, honestly love the kindness in this forum :heart:

imo, therapy is a hit or miss. i absolutely hate talking about my feelings and problems in general, so therapy would never work for me.

however, for some, it's about finding the right person to talk to. how do you feel about you're therapist? how does you're therapist make you feel in general and about you're problems? Do they make an attempt to sort of want u to feel comfortable or is it this just one sided thing with a lack of empathy? is it more so that this whole element of being uncomfortable about talking about you're trauma based off only that or maybe is it i guess a tense and uneasy relationship between you and ur therapist?

to me, a ton of therapists just force the issue and make the relationship between a person and themselves uneasy and tense. a really good therapist is an empathetic individual who genuinly creates a relationship of understanding and comfort for a person. perhaps switching to a new therapist?

maybe if this type of therapy isnt working, considering other types of therapy?

As above, if you find the right therapist, things change massively. It has to be someone you connect with instantly, you can go through tens of therapists finding the right one. It's very are the first one you see will be the one that works for you. Every therapist has different ideas and different ways of treating and dealing with things. You have to find one that works for you. It's OK to ask for a second opinion, it's OK to ask to see someone else. Good luck, keep trying, there is a therapist out there that can help you.

I don't blame you at all. Therapy hasn't been helpful for me (coming from someone who has been on and off over the years through trying at least no less than 10 mental health professionals) either. As far as being honest, assuming you want to get something productive, yes, you could be honest, but omit certain details that you deem that could put your freedom at risk. By this, what I mean is to say what you need to say, without giving all the details, like that you feel like shit and not hint at suicide or harm. Therapists and mental health professionals (as well as any mandated report) always act on their interests as well as society and government's interests first, thus the CYA (cover your ass) concept first and foremost. They want to protect their own career, job, and of course, their own freedom so they would not take any chances; thus at any 'potential' danger, they would act on intervention first then ask later. To them, it's the "better safe than sorry" and from a legal perspective it makes sense (even if I don't fully agree with it).

In your situation, I would suggest just approaching the subject carefully, like you said, you don't want to give too much details that would set off red flags that cause them 'concern'. Finally, just remember that they are looking after themselves and society, government first, then you, not the other way around. They are also not your 'friend', they are mandated reporters.

which country are you in and how long have you been on Zoloft for? Have you tried other meds too?

I am personally in favour of trying different medications for the correct amount of time, then swithcing htem to see if something else helps better. Definitely not being on one med indefinitely.

Sounds really tough to have agoraphobia and have to go to therapy. We are here to remote support you through it.

Exactly. I had no connection and no results with my first three therapists, and the fourth one is one of the reasons I'm still here. As thrw_a_way said, you can make your level of unhappiness clear without saying the magic words which will force the therapist to take more drastic actions.
