Tested Russian SN

Hi All

So, I managed to get a few hours on my own and used the time to test my SN. I had two batches, one from May 2020 and one that was delivered last week.

I haven't been able to get photos, but I have an aquarium, so used my API freshwater test kit - which is liquid rather than test strips. I used deionised water to dilute. 2.5G sample into 500ml, then 1ml of mixed sample into another 500ml of DI. I then diluted further to meet the range of my test solution.

The 2020 batch had not been opened, the silver foil cap, lid and tape were all in place. The result showed levels of nitrAte, but also around 50% NitrItes. It had clumped fairly badly and was tinged yellow.

Last weeks batch was around 80% NitrIte.. so not the 'advertised' purity, but not bad. It was much whiter with minimal clumping.

These were my results, so may not be applicable to any samples you hold.

Please check your own before using it. I'm not going to use mine yet; I'll just order more if I need to... but thought some of you may find this interesting...

Hmm, so 50% pure is the Russian SN of 'Rea....'

I wonder if we then can double the recommended dose of 25g to 50g to compensate.
I don't know how dangerous that is, since a lot of nitrAte will be ingested then too..

Yes that's where mine is from my attempt of 25g

Maybe yours was 50% too.. which could still be lethal then, but maybe nitrate level in it was too high.

Unfortunately I didn't take pictures. It was an opportunistic moment and I didn't have my phone on me.
