It does surprise me how many people commit suicide in prison when they have so many fewer resources available- I guess maybe they have more determination because their situation in prison is so bad, plus they sometimes have a limited window of time available, such as being in a holding cell alone for just so long. In solitary they generally won't have a place to hang from and in general population they will generally have at least one roommate, so the chances are limited.

I'm not sure how else yoy would do it unless you could somehow od on the low quality, small denominations of drugs affordable in there. That would take some effort. Especially without access to syringes. Prison is a terrible place. I think I would be determined enough to pull off partial in those circumstances.

prison is a terrible place, at least out there, and that's how it has to be. There, given the situations, even a simple hanging with high chances of survival comes in handy, you have plenty of time to think about your inner purpose...

Once I was for some hours in a prison cell I got crazy couldnt stand that! Would defintly go for suicide if it was for longer.
Even more so once you are in general prison population. Its brutal and unrelenting. Need your head on a swivel and watching your belongings like a hawk. If you don't have the strength for it you have no chance for quality of life at all. Just terror and isolation.

I think if someone is really desperate and determined they will find a way no matter what to ctb. Being in such a horrible situation can drive people over the edge.

I reckon the suicides are mainly murders. They want them dead so make it look like suicide.
Actually most cases seems to be suicides because people don't want to do life in prison, from what I have seen.
We will never know. I think they kill some prisoners like Fred West. Then say suicide.
Based on posts from someone who said he was a prison guard, hanging is really the only way he has even seen- cutting is an extremely low success rate methos, it works less than 2% of the time.

One method I've thought of before but I've never heard been used, might it be possible to do a half flip off a raised platform (bed, sink etc) and land on your head to break your neck? That guy in NYC earlier this year breaking his neck trying to jump over a turnstile comes to mind.
