Discussion Suicide dramedy series "After Life"

Hi! Has anyone seen the series called "After Life"? It's a dramedy about suicide, starting Ricky Gervais. I just started watching it again on Netflix. This will be my third year in a row watching it because I think it's just brilliant! It's raw and brutal and honest and gutwrenching. Of all I've heard about perspectives on suicide, this is the one that hits home the most for me.

Any thoughts about it? Does anyone care to join me in watching it? Here is more info, if you're interested...

I just started watching the first episode; it made me laugh out loud!!! (not a lot of things do lately) It's so good. It's like, exactly how i feel. This bit:

"So, everything's a bonus. If I become an arsehole, and I do and say what the fսck I want for as long as I want, and then when it all gets too much, I can always kill myself. It's like a superpower.

That's the worst superhero I've ever heard of.

That's the way it is now."

It's my favourite ricky Gervais tv series. I've seen it twice now. I cry at the ending aswell when hes walking across the field.

@thelostautistic what did you find the most funny about it? One of my favourite things is how he manages to criticise and tell off absolutely everyone. No one is sacred! Oh, and the swearing is spectacular!

@Echo the ending was ambiguous, wasn't it? Just beautiful. I can still see the scene in my mind's eye. So powerful. What was your favourite thing about the series?

@flowersforalgernons I love that superpower scene too as that's such a brilliant perspective, right?!?! I can't believe all this material Ricky Gervais has come up with. I mean, he's bang on as to my suicidal experiences. Not only does he star in this, but he also wrote and directed it. And he was such a royal fucking asshole in this role. I mean, he typically is an asshole is in all his work, but this is King Fucking Asshole. How did he manage that?? And yet he's loveable. So loveable. I hope you keep watching and enjoying. There are three seasons, but only 6 half-hour episodes per season.

Oh dear me! I have to clarify that I *never* say out loud those horrible things Rocky Gervais says in the show. But I think a lot of those thoughts. If I did say them, I wouldn't have anyone around me. It does make me think, though, it might be a more liveable world for suicidal people if we were allowed to express ourselves. Maybe we wouldn't have to commit suicide to escape a world that is hostile towards those who can't adapt and embrace it? I wish I had people around me like Ricky Gervais has in the show.

Hi @never mind me. Not that I know of because it's a Netflix series. I'm strapped for cash too, so bought the €8.99 with ads monthly membership. I'll probably cancel after a month. There are a few movies and series I want to watch. Another very awesome dark comedy series that I'm going to watch for the third time is with Drew Barrymore and Timothy Oliphant, called "Santa Clarita Diet". It's so crazy dark. It's a zombie comedy.
