Hi I attempted partial a few days back and told ppl on fb. They ended up calling the cops and they came and took my noose away and gave me a lecture of self harm and made me promise not to do it anymore. My question is why was I not hospitalized?

I also bought a rope when I was with my parents and they drove me to the hospital and the cops came over and talked to me but didn't make me go inside. Why is this? Is it only if I'm a danger to others or property?

where are you? i'm in uk......massive cuts to the police force......they're just too busy now to deal with things like that. mental health services have been decimated as well.....it's a disgrace!

If they determine you to not be imminently suicidal or in any danger, you will likely not be hospitalized.

Law enforcement in the U.S. has a huge amount of discretion in how they may handle such situations.

I don't think you should want to find out. If you'd like the help, you can go to your doctor to set an appointment with a psychiatrist. That's what I've done, at least.

Lack of bed space or inadequate facilities, also cops may have thought you were crying for attention.

I've been in the hospital 6 times the homeless shelter with my dad once. Cuz of traumatic things that have happened to me. I've been angry about them and I've been destroying things and having anger outbursts. Now I realize that they are false, so I've stopped. Now I've got 28,000 in debt. I've been to a psychiatrist as ordered per my last hospitalization and I've had my gun rights taken away. Just recently got released from outpatient commital. I can request that my right to own a gun be restored.

In the uk,it depends on your state of mind and how you are acting at the time.
If you say it was something you will not do again and appear calm and collected then i guess they feel they dont need to act but if (like me ) you are defensive and rejecting help saying you want to and will kill yourself,it is a sure way to get sectioned and hospitalized.
