I don't agree with this statement. I have some Israeli relatives. I think some of them fought for the IDF. I joked with my pro-Palestine friends the next time I meet them I will be wearing a kufiyah. (Bro I cannot do that at a funeral...)
I attended pro-Palestine protests. I told this story in the forum but my former therapist compared me to nazis for doing that. It was the same therapist who tried to ruin my life by writing lies in my medical records intentionally at a later time point. Oh well,...and the German institutions are protecting her. What an irony. But I digress.

So my relative (who is very very educated, won't go into details) had the opinion Germany wasn't a safe place for Israelis we were governed by nazis....Like what the fuck. My friends considered the reaction of my mom funny. She told me that's bullshit Germany has too many foreigners for actually being governed by nazis.

But honestly I am not sure what she is refering to. I really don't know it. The AfD is on the rise and they are nazi adjacent. But they are not in power. They are the biggest opposition party. The chancellor is Friedrich Merz. And together with Trump they give Netanjahu a free pass for doing their genocide. I don't know in which world the statement of my relative makes sense. I guess there is a lot of misinformation in the Israeli media ecosystem.

Can someone enlighten me? Have you ever heard Germany was governed by nazis at the moment? And Germany wasn't safe for Israelis? I mean there is antisemitism. I don't think my relative wanted to say Merz is a nazi because he supports Netanjahju. I think commenting this with adjective "based" would be delicate so I will refrain from doing this. Actually, he isn not a nazi but he backs someone who is directly responsible for a genocide.

If we're talking about Ukrainian media, political experts, and similar circles, they would probably call Germany — excuse me — "soy" (I'm exaggerating, of course), but in any case they definitely wouldn't call germans Nazis.

Sigh… If Merz were even a little bit of a nazi, maybe he would have given us Taurus missiles… They would have been really useful a couple of years ago...

To be honest, since Merz came to power — or however it works in your system — I haven't heard anything about German politics.

I think nazi has devolved into a curse word. I'd interpret it as Germany not being as progressive as they would have liked. There's likely some projection on top - worst case scenarios in case AfD both gets lots of influence, and goes completely crazy.
I think it's quite similar to the right-wing calling anyone who likes state sanctioned welfare, a communist.

There are slippery slopes in all directions, and I can sympathize with some worry.
