I've been interested in SN for a while due to it's accessibility and the fact that the symptoms that appear before loss of consciousness / death aren't very scary to me (I deal with nausea / dizziness / fainting regularly so feel confident in my ability to handle death by SN in that aspect). My main concern has been the taste. I've always had huge taste aversions, I can basically drink water and apple juice and that's it, even drinking cow's milk makes me nauseous and gag, same with alcohol. So for a while I had written off the idea, since I knew there would be no way I could successfully drink a glass of SN, much less a second if I threw up the first.

I had to have a NG tube last fall for reasons related to my sensitive gag reflex, and realized how easy it was to administer meds through the tube. I believe using an NG tube could be a way for people with extreme taste aversions and sensitivities to administer a lethal dose of SN with as minimal discomfort as possible.

No doctor is going to place a tube for this reason, but if you do some research, it's not super difficult to place an NG tube on your own. I think anywhere from a 8-12 french would work fine for this, I'd avoid going larger because the larger the tube, the sorer your nasal cavity and throat will be after placing it. You'll also want to do testing after the tube is placed to make sure it is actually in your stomach and not in your lungs or somewhere else. Any medical site selling NG tubes will also sell PH strips you can use to test and confirm you've placed the tube correctly.

The only risk I can think of with this method, is that it's not a guarantee to stop vomiting. I believe there is a good chance you will still vomit after administering the SN. It will be very important to make sure while throwing up, you do NOT throw up the tube if you can help it, as you will need it still in to administer a second dose of SN if needed.

Those are my current thoughts on this method. I just ordered my SN from overseas today, so it will be a few weeks before I can test this out. But hopefully all goes well. I do have prescription benzos I will be taking with it, and Zofran (I know, not ideal, but all I have).

It doesn't sound like a terrible idea at all. Having no experience with NG tubes, I can't be much help there but it sounds doable. I also hate the idea of having to drink it and imagine I will puke quickly despite taking the anti emetics. I wonder why it can't be placed in enteric coated capsules which are designed to devolve in the small intestine. My guess is the SN might resolve them quickly.

Yes, I have a pretty large syringe that I should be able to relatively quickly plunge it all in one go :)

I'm hoping it will go well, I think there are a lot of us out there who are really put-off by SN solely because of the unpleasant taste. This option would require more work and does involve some discomfort, but I've personally found the discomfort of an NG tube easier to deal with than drinking something gross.

I've wondered that about the capsules as well. Again, would be a great option for people with taste aversions if it could work. Following the instructions for SN as-is, I'm honestly surprised as many people successfully CTB as they do. Some of us just have very strong-wills (and stomachs) I guess.

Just fyi, if u don't know how to put an ng tube down and u haven't been shown how to do it it'll likely be way too painful to just simply put it down your nose and throat all the way to your stomach the first time around. I've had nurses with experience with ng tubes accidentally put it in wrong for me and have extreme pain. Experimenting with putting it in would also include lots of pain and gagging. Due to my anorexia I've had about 10 ng tubes and only one of those times did it go down "smoothly" .
(For people that don't already have one)

This is good information for people who haven't had an NG before like you said. It's definitely an uncomfortable procedure. I'd say probably give yourself an hour to put it in the first time and expect gagging, eyes watering, etc. Not a great time, but I hope ultimately still worth it to avoid the taste and initial vomiting from SN (if you have extreme taste aversions like I do. I also have hx of extreme anorexia nervosa which contributes a lot to this being a more preferable option for me, probably)

i plan on doing the same but the G port thru my GJ tube, thought about using the J port to bypass the stomach too but im not sure how bad SN will be straight into your gut someone told me it can cause cramping :/ putting it in a G tube doesnt make it so you don't vomit either, with my NG i still threw up at times, idk why the PPH says otherwise that pmo lol, but if you dont gag too hard it shouldnt come up, if it does maybe you have time to replace it but idk

i thought about making a post about different feeding tubes especially for SN, i have a draft written up with info posts as i saw other people wanting to do the same thing, but then showing me animal tube feed supplies and it pains me i feel like i need to add better info ;-; i get conflicted posting the guide a bit, but there are literally guides on how to CTB in all sorts of ways here so i probably will work on it more, if anyone likes that idea lemme know or do the info emoji button that works too

this is def a big possibility, i hated nurses putting in NG tubes i ended up learning how to do it by myself easier since i can angle it the correct way, when i did most of it myself it went pretty smooth just quite uncomfortable until it settles. most uncomfortable part for me is getting it in my nose to my throat, then its easier because i just sip water while pushing it in like ur swallowing the tube

I would appreciate a post with more info, and I'm sure a lot of the other chronically ill and disabled members on here would appreciate it as well. I get feeling conflicted … I guess personally, I feel anyone who takes action was going to do something anyways. If I can alleviate their chances of suffering, that's probably a net good.

i'll keep working on it then! i got a draft of feeding tube info explaining different types and how they are used, and try to research as much as i can for both other tubies, or for people without tubes and have their mind set on using one to CTB, since it can be risky when done improperly i would rather people know the proper information about it. the confliction comes from knowing how people are gonna use the info, which makes me feel kinda guilty, but ik people will do it anyways, so i might as well try to collect information those people would need so they dont end up puncturing their stomach or getting the tube in their airways, that happening while someone is 100% ready to CTB also breaks my heart, i would rather aid with i can to hopefully make things alleviate suffering somewhat and not go terribly wrong

if you have any ideas you would like to see me talk about in my future post, feel free to suggest things! i have a list of basics i want to cover but don't exactly have outside suggestions to work from
