So, I tried the search function, but it appears that no one else received their SN on a day when it was minus 55 C outside.

I googled the subject, and the only concrete information that I could get was that you shouldn't freeze SN, as it may create moisture exposure. I found this in a food blog, after wading through science journals!

Would anyone that has a background in chemistry care to weigh in on whether I should even bother to blood test it?

Once I unwrapped the postal envelope, the plastic bottle was so cold that the circulation in my hand was affected (white, waxy areas) just from holding it for 45 seconds.

I ordered a backup, but there's a story about that as well! Any thoughts are appreciated:)

The salt itself is not reactive and shouldn't change structure (only at 200C or with pressure etc).

It's sealed , so safe . The little moist air could freeze and defrost creating some moisture , but insignificant .

I cannot think of an inhabitable place on earth where it's currently -55C ... Are you in Antarctica ? ;) (wind chill temp is not relevant .. )

I read a thing that was saying SN solution loses potency when cold, but I'm not sure about the powder at all. Does the bottle maybe have a temperature range listed on it anywhere?

Amused by my stupidity: (a) It's summer there , (b) this month Antarctica actually record high +18C .

I've heard that a lot as well, here. Some wrote of some interaction when freezing. But @nitrogen shared a graph where that doesn't appear to be the case. I am wondering about this. Feels like we're overly anxious for nothing. I think SN is much more durable and potent than we give it credit for. I'm not addressing you @k75 , but you reminded me , to open it up for discussion :)

I definitely believe there is a lot of unnecessary overthinking going on around here when it comes to SN. Research is good. But pulling hair out over every little thing seems like more of a subconscious stalling tactic.

Yes it arrived severweeks ago and it was -45 then. Minus 55 was the overnight low the night before, and I had to assume that the parcel was exposed to that.

I do agree on days like that, the place I live isn't habitable!

Thank you for the information.

You are right! I was overthinking.
Definitely not stalling though, but my ctb date depends on the travel plans of another person, and that is frustrating:(
I am older and my current lack of autonomy is difficult.

Checked that already, as well as Hazmat training texts, peer reviewed journals, etc.

I guess it's natural to be worried about every little detail :) We're all doing this , all the time .. (not just SN)

Hazmat training texts, peer reviewed journals, etc.
Doing the same I just couldn't find anything. Always "recommended room temperature" , never is it mentioned becoming reactive (converting to other substance thus losing potency) -- but at 100C+ , flames , pressure , strong acids/bases , etc.

Oh, you were the furthest person from my mind when I said that! I think you're being smart to ask this. That kind of cold is concerning. I was just observing there's an overthinking trend in threads lately, and it often feels like a sort of hesitation. If you fall down a rabbithole, you don't need to decide kind of thing.

I have also observed quite a few questions that may well involve uncertainty about ctb as a choice. I miss the people who have gone that were able to kindly redirect the anxious over thinkers.
