I have had the same issue my entire life. If it's one of those pills that are not in a capsule then you can definitely cut it up without losing out on anything. If it's in a capsule there's a chance that you can just take it out and dissolve it in water, it'll just taste like trash. But sometimes the capsule is there to protect from the substances giving you chemical burns, so in that case you would probably have to dilute it.

You are not a stupid piece of garbage.

I hope this isn't an obvious question; would splitting the pills and then putting the pieces in some kind of soft food help you to be able to swallow them?

I had trouble swallowing pills until I was in my late twenties. I could never do it. I think most of my trouble was mental, in that I was scared it would get stuck in my throat. The way I learned how to swallow pills was by buying several bags of M&Ms and just standing at the sink and practicing until I got it. I remember making a mess all over the sink with water coming out my mouth and all, and even out my nose several times. I took a while, but I eventually got it. I still have trouble on some of the larger ones. And BTW, you are not a piece of garbage. There are LOTS of people who have trouble swallowing pills. That's why they have compounding pharmacies, so that those who did can get liquid versions of the medications. I know you can do it if you keep trying. It took time for me to get it and I didn't I'd be able to do it. Don't give up.
