Should I buy a gun?

I have an overwhelming suicidal ideation specifically about shooting myself in the back of the head. I've never attempted suicide before and have never owned a gun. Would buying one for protection actually help me to overcome this fantasy or would it drive me to finally do it. Opinions?
I believe on harder days our need to ctb gets to a 10 and the moment of pure panic and pain eliminate our SI. For me personally I would love to have a gun around so once those days come I can do it. If I had my sn delivered a couple of days ago I would have done it but now I calmed down. I hate it when I calm down and feel nothing even though I really want to ctb.

I would not buy one at this time, instead I would ask myself why I am thinking about suicide and whether the problems are fixable or not. I would give this a lot of thought before taking a step like that. I would exhaust all options like help from others or things you can do to help before taking the next step. It could be helpful to post the reason or reasons why you are considering ctb.

I would say no to the gun. There are less expensive and less painful ways to go. Google failed suicide attempts with firearms. Maybe reevaluate things too. My SI are pretty bad somedays. I have a gun in my bedside table but I dont think I'd ever use it for cbt. I want to just take N or a lot of F and fall asleep peacefully 4ever

I'm using N + firearm method, because I don't wanna drift off to sleep but don't want to accidentally survive gunshot. So far I am still gathering supplies but it feels like a good concrete goal that I am working towards. My opinion would be do some research on where to aim because it's not the kind of thing that leaves you unscathed in a failed attempt.
I would if I was able to and would have been dead a long time ago due to impulsiveness I am sure, I have shot guns earlier in my life quite a lot so am comfortable with them, they are the holy grail of methods to me but impossible to get.

Not to start a fight but don't statistics show that firearm suicide is the most successful and least painful? I never see people talking about how hanging can fail a lot of times and be painful
With any method there will be a chance of failure, but you can far reduce the chances by studying. Even then, if you use a shotgun, aim right (Roof of the mouth, maybe?) you will likely succeed, right?

I wonder how many failed gunshot attempts are from low caliber handguns, poor shot placement (under the chin, the belly) flinching, etc. I don't see how someone could survive a .357 Magnum shot to the skull with a hollow point bullet at ear level.
Lol, but the police and military have loads of them. Who the fuck is going to resist them if they try to, let's say, restrict your movement, ask for a compliance passport and force you to wear a muzzle everywhere?

Murican problems, sorry. I have never even touched a gun in my life. Nor have I seen anybody holding a gun (except law enforcement), nobody in my circle of friends and relatives ever owned a gun.

You said really well, if I had access to a gun in the moment of pure darkness I would probably be a free man for a while, Unfortunately it is not easy to get a gun where I am.

Thought about everyday for almost 20 years. Problems aren't fixable, me and the world are both fucked up and can't seem to get along or make anything work. No one wants to help, everyone knows I'm suicidal and either detest me, mock it or won't aknowledge it out of fear. I can't do anything but work anymore. I don't want to live and I have nothing and no one. If I could I would just will myself to death, I feel like the only thing holding me back is the judgement if I did it. Especially so violently.

Well I cannot picture anyone being in any pain when the thing that's responsible for the signals is obliterated, or coming back for that matter. But I am no neurologist. All other methods here have 'small' windows where intervention afterwards is possible. Lots of these failed attempts are probably impulsive ones, hell maybe they thought anywhere in the head would work
You can also easily get a gun + ammo for less than what N would cost you. (unless you're able to get to the vets in mexico for cheap)
Not a redneck! I do not hunt game, collect guns, or "fancy" guns. I never carry a gun on my person or in my vehicle. They are kept near my bedside for personal/home protection.

Shotgun in the roof of the month is a pretty guaranteed passport to eternal sleep. It'd be either that or jumping for me since the death is instant rather than the pain of poison, however since gun control in the UK is stricter than something out of 1984 I doubt I would ever be able to get my hands on one.
You can always go death by cop. Its not even considered suicide if done in a certain pattern. Dont mention youre suicidal just give them a reason to use it on you. In the us. They just unload a clip when you hold a cell phone like a g.
May not be peaceful but living isnt peaceful anymore.
Im stuck between death by cop or a train cuz every time ive used pills and alcohol i always wake up in the icu. Got close but no cigar
Best of luck

I personally would not choose a gun. But the success rates a pretty high. I know of 2 people who used a gun and failed. One person blew her cheek out and the other guy has terrible facial disfigurement.
Suicide by firearm leaves no time to change your mind. I know that many folks view this as a plus, but I think that window is valuable. Especially if you haven't been actively planning for this time, this situation.
I'd give it a good, hard think. Take some time to examine your deepest feelings, and be sure you are ready now. Plan as if you'll use the gun the same day you hold it, since that may well be the case. Have your location selected and ready, your time of day chosen, and your plan for afterwards (letters? discovery?) all set to go.
If you're not ready to do this deep dive into the prep, I don't think it's time for the gun.
Whatever you decide, I wish you the peace you are seeking.
I doubt it will help you overcome. Probably more likely to do it. That's the one reason I don't have a gun… right now. During my lowest times if I had a gun I would be gone already, know what I mean?
Also I think ctb by firearm is one of the most reliable ways to go, and probably instant
It would be my number 1 method if I had one solely because of the speed and reliability.
