When it comes to the SN regimen, it seems the focus is on that you should fast for at least 8 hours. Little is said about whether one should also clean out the bowels as well. Is this something that is critical as well? I've read an empty small intestine is important to ensure SN absorption into the blood stream.

These days I'm often constipated, made worse by nerves, so this is a concern for me.

That would take you like three plus days of fasting or some very strong laxatives. I am in no way an expert but I don't think it's necessary. It's a liquid, it's going to get through whatever solids are in your bowels. It's like if you take a dissolved paracetamol or aspirin or whatever, it's still going to work. And seeing how fast those medicines work it's getting absorbed pretty early on in your small intestine I would guess.

Cleaning the bowels is a bit extreme I guess; what if I were constipated leading into the fast? I've read a few posts that say that's a bad idea (for both N and SN). Maybe I'm overthinking this...

Unless your constipation is so severe it needs medical attention I don't think it will be an issue but again, I am not a medical professional.

You could try drinking coffee as a natural laxative
