I've been practicing compressing my carotid arteries with my hands so I know what it feels like, but instead of passing out after about 10-20 seconds I feel like I'm suffocating. Is this supposed to happen or am I not hitting the carotid? Thanks.

It's possible you may be compressing the jugular vein but without enough pressure to compress the carotid artery. This can cause the head fulling feeling because blood is coming into the head but it's not leaving.

I know what you're talking about, but I don't get the full head feeling, it just feels like I'm running out of air.

Exactly that, yeah!
Same fucking thing happening to me. After 15-20 seconds no fuzzy vision, no pain, but intense gasping for air.

I still think its better than the "exploding head" syndrome. Maybe I need to numb myself down with something. If certain points in the neck are pressed hard enough - ideally, the heart rate would drop. But for some reason its not my case. Need more practice!
