I got my hands on a lighter. No need for further explanation on that.

I just need advice on how to take care of the ensuing burns. Thanks.

Second degree burns that cover more than 10% of the body should be treated at the hospital. Same with second degree burns on the head/neck area and genital area. Third-degree burns of any size need to be treated in the hospital. Burns get infected very easily. I understand if you don't want to go to the hospital, and it's not up to me to tell you what to do, but I would strongly recommend doing so if your burns fit the criteria I've outlined.

Aloe could be helpful to have on hand. In theory, coat the burn in a good layer and gauze wrap it up AFTER you do all the primary first aid Dot linked. I do agree with @Lady Laudanum RE: severe burns. Ending up with an infection isn't something you want, esp on a burn.

Scarring can also get really bad if severe burns are not treated appropriately. If it's on a part of the body that is supposed to move around a lot (hands, feet, joints), you can end up with contractures that restrict your movement. It's something that needs to be taken seriously.

I only have an EMT license and even if I had higher qualifications, it would still not be my place to give medical advice. However, I think that it's reasonable for me to make general recommendations and to let people know if they absolutely need to seek medical care. I'll stop though if the mods consider it to be overstepping.
