Help Really considering synthesizing SN over buying it… need opinions

I'm just hearing too many stories of people not getting their SN.

It's hard work to make SN. But I think I can make something pure if I try hard enough. According to AI, I could hit 98-99% purity. Which gives me leeway as I only need 95% purity.

I will be doing a lot of things to get it pure such as many recrystallizations.

I just realized I probably should make sure the other 5% of whatever is in there is safe for consumption in small amounts. Because normally the other ~5% is sodium nitrate, for me it's probably other stuff.

Need peoples opinions.

What ever you do, do NOT rely on AI giving you a "recipe" for how to synthesize something. There should be enough resources out there from actual scientific publications.

But I think with no knowledge about what you're doing you won't be getting very far.

Also all the stuff you would need to order would look hella suspicious I'm assuming

Lol no. Not using AI recipe. Just asked questions about purity… but ultimately I will be testing the purity with the aquarium strips.

Just wanted to know a ballpark on the purity.

Ah, this is what I wanted. I know there are some YouTube videos that show how to synthesize sodium nitrote, but off the top of my head I do not know the purity of the product that they end up with. As I said in your other thread, chemistry is like cooking, and one person could get mostly pure product and you could get garbage from following the exact same protocol. It really depends on what you start with, your equipment, and how closely you follow the steps.

I get that it's not certain I make something good, but I don't really see a issue with trying. But if you see an issue I would like to know it. I'm looking for feedback after all.

There is absolutely no issue with your trying so long as you are willing to not get your desired results. I am actually rather curious to have someone try this at home as I do not think anyone on the forum has yet to take on the task and report results.
