I was not big fan of Prodigy, but of course, I didn't live under a rock either. We have so many famous people nowadays, ending their live consciously. The positive thing is... this is probably the only way to break the stigma, and people to understand that this act is not just for "losers"...

I had never heard of Keith until now, but I am terribly sorry that he felt driven to end his life.
The media glorifies suicide and promotes it. If a celebrity, someone who has the star power and fortune is willing, then why shouldn't I, someone who is without the star power and fortune not do it? Following the announcement and news of a celebrity's suicide, people think about it more, and if sufficiently vulnerable, they may see it as a viable way out of whatever their current circumstances are. If someone is already having dark thoughts, and then suicide is in the media, it's really hard for people who are having dark thoughts to avoid doing the same thing. Media coverage of suicide causes a ripple effect. How many of us have thought about suicide in some way or form following the discovery that a celebrity we knew of did it? I know I'm guilty of that.
I think the media are doing the public a serious disservice in covering celebrity suicide. I'm not convinced that it helps to dissolve the stigma related to suicide, but rather that it only encourages suicide. "You're free now." "Rest in peace." These words (for example) suggest that we can only be free and rest peacefully once our lives in over, and I think that it reprehensible when many of our lives can be shifted for the better and we can be free and experience peace while still alive.
We have a crisis of meaning, where so many people don't know have a purpose or meaning to live for, and the media does not encourage us to find a purpose and meaning to live--but rather, they encourage us to look for ways we are being oppressed and victimized. This is incredibly unproductive and unhealthy for us.
Having said all of that, I hope that the loved ones that Keith left behind can use this tragedy as a catalyst to find meaning and purpose, and that this won't cause them to be in so dark a place that they follow the same path as he did.

No, the mainstream media definitely not. They often don't mention the method anymore, let alone details how the suicide has been carried out. Sometimes, you can only infer suicide from the fact that they printed the hotline number below the article. What do you expect them to write? There's no way to be completely silent about a celeb's death.

Makes you wonder why though, he probably had enough money to try to fix his problems. He's not the first with enough means to still end it though. Who knows what his reasons were they are different for everybody so you never know.
Scares me even more because I want to live but don't have the means to get the treatment I need. Guess that makes me a dead man walking...

Just found this, and wanted to pay my respects to Keith. Been listening to the prodigy for more than half of my life thanks to family members. I am actually devastated by his loss, and he will certainly be missed. Rest in peace Keithy, see you in another life time

It's not always that simple. Money can't fix everything. Obviously those with money who still kill themselves didn't do so because they couldn't afford rent and food this month or because they're so far in debt they're about to lose everything.
There's an emotional or mental issue that money just can't change.
I'm sorry to hear you haven't the means t get the help you need, perhaps there is another way? There are organizations in place specifically to help people in your situation, though if you reside elsewhere in the world than me I'm unsure if that's true. I hope you soon have the ability to get treatment, it's too awful to hear about someone who wants to live but doesn't have the opportunity to get the help they need to do so.

I've heard of Prodigy but didn't listen to them much either. Smack My Bitch Up is the song I'm most familiar with. Without googling them.
I don't know if the stigma will ever go away. Many famous people have CTB and the stigma is still there.
It worked for Robin Williams, Chris Cornell & Chester Bennington. (Those are just the celebrities I can think of)
For myself I prefer N as well. I don't think I would be successful at hanging either.
Maybe he did not know about N ?
I will always have him in my memories (until I die) and I will have a great feeling of joy listening to his music and dancing. I wish I could tell him THANKS!!! so much!

I remember them as a band that did a cover of "Blue Monday". Pretty sure they'd done a ton more and released many more songs and albums, etc. But the New Order cover stays in my mind, even though there are many New Order songs I personally like more.
But the news was heavy, because I remember the period of time I heard of Prodigy first. I suffered from mild depression back then. That was all. That was it. Just mild depression. I bet Keith Flint most likely suffered from mild depression back then, if any depression at all.

Thanks for correcting me. Yup. That's right. It was Orgy covering it. I mixed them up with Prodigy. I'm glad someone remembers this better than I do. I do remember Prodigy being mentioned around that era, but I don't remember if they had some song of theirs at that time that made them more popular to the mainstream because their name was on my radar back in the late 90's for some reason, and I don't listen much of this genre. I think New Order was probably as far as I'd even ventured into anything alternative dance, etc.

For me, it's reading that there were no "suspicious circumstances" that usually indicates suicide. If it's a 'natural' death then the report usually says so. Or mentions being with friends and/or family, or 'peacefully in their sleep' . I don't expect details (out of respect for family)
Keith Flint was apparently a really nice, quiet and humble guy. Quite the opposite of his stage character. There are loads of stories of him being supportive of others, both in music and his other love, motorcycling (he owned, or part owned, a race team) Maybe there was no one there for him.

I wasn't really sure... I just knew I had heard the version from Orgy. When I tried to find Prodigy's Blue Monday on you tube Orgy's version came up with the most results. I didn't look very hard so Prodigy could have covered it as well... I don't know. There are quite a few songs that I didn't know were remakes until I accidentally found them on YouTube.
I like the New Order version of Blue Monday but prefer Orgy's version more.
I don't really listen to alternative dance. I will have to google it to see what it is. I guess I just thought it was all called dance music or EDM.
I can listen to some of it but it some EDM is annoying.

I do remember growing up when both The Smiths and New Order were getting a lot of airplay. I sort of was always more privy towards the Smiths, but have gone and revisited a lot of New Order songs at a later age. Honestly, I am not even sure about all these EDM labels, etc. I love New Order's "Age of Consent". It's just an amazing song, and I don't really know if that's alternative dance or not, but it just sounds like a classic 80's love song to me and sounds very pop to me.
