It's like they don't understand the will to die in a calm manner. They always pretend we are the emotional ones overreacting and shit when I think they're being cry babies saying shit like "life is precious" (or maybe it's convenient that we stay alive for their wallets). We are the realistic beings in this discussion and it's mind boggling to me that their simplistic view of things is preferred/seen as a reference. If one is not made for this world and brought to suffer in it every single day why one wouldn't use their free will to get out of this shit ? The world doesn't want me so I don't want it either.
I just got into a heated debate with my psychiatrist who was outraged I could support euthanasia for psychological problems. He wants to see me as borderline so bad (Of course it's a total misdiagnosed I know myself and I am just not). He just talked on repeat about himself and all the tough times he went through while I was sitting there crying. Awkward as hell.

I relate to yall more than I relate to anybody in my life and this corner of the Internet is precious for me cause we get to have real suicide talk, as a formality, as a well considered project. I feel respected amongst you.

My experiences with psychiatrists are pretty similar. Called the last one a cunt and all sorts, I do think that they're supposed to put us in difficult positions and bring out difficult emotions but doesn't mean it isn't shit x

I mean all they're there to do is prescribe medication so we pump money in right x

The problem is that psychiatrists assume that "you have potential to get better". Which is inherently ableist and completely disregards the fact that whichever illness/disability you suffer from means you will never actually realize that potential.
At least not in the way that your doctor would want you to and that society expects you to function.

That leads to an endless cycle:
- hope (this drug will be it)
- expectations (this therapy will help)
- failure (because there is nothing that actually works)
- the patient losing hope and eventually
- the doctor losing hope.

In the end you get labeled with things like "BPD, treatment resistant, uncooperative, lazy, combative" and you have a person that is desperately tired, deeply depressed, turns to self harm or addictive behaviours and is hating themselves for not being able to "realize their potential".

Meanwhile doctors hand you over to others because they too become upset and don't know what else to do.

And so the cycle continues.
On and on and on.

I feel like in a world as horrible as this, wanting suicide can be perfectly rational. I have came to the conclusion that my life is not worth living and that things could only get worse for me, wanting suicide does not mean that I am mentally ill at all. You are right that psychiatrists are just motivated by money. That sounds like such an awful experience that you had with the psychiatrist.

I do wish that we lived in a world where euthanasia is legalised everywhere, and suicide is not always seen as irrational. Life is completely meaningless after all, and we will all die eventually anyway, so there is nothing wrong with someone choosing to end their suffering at a time of their own choosing. None of us asked for this horrible life in the first place, so our right to die should be respected.

It's the good old "if I can do it, so can you".

Bootstraps and all that.

Some are better than others. Truthfully, when they first see you can can only guess at your problem based on any reports they have and how you engage with them. It you have a good day, the guess is more difficult. Then they try some meds and see how it goes over the next few months.
We are not like a car where you can plug in and get a list of the things needing attention.

Then there are some that have their favorite diagnosis and medications. You will have that problem and cure no matter what is the real issue. A second opinion is crucial in these circumstances.

I can't believe that in 2022 that's still the best a psychiatrist can do. It's absurd.

Conservatives wish we could go back to "a woman's place is in the kitchen".
So yeah… by all means. If they bring back the over-the-counter barbiturates too!

I spent decades seeing psychiatrist and taking antidepressants and they did little more than just gaslight me into thinking I was addressing my problems when I was not. Waste of money and false hope.

Too many ppl trying to force their will upon others, thinking everyone else must think the same way. Telling us life is so great, don't see them too keen to swap places with the homeless, they wouldn't like to be autistic or lose the use of their legs or any of the other myriad of problems that can arise. I fucking hate the majority of ppl, so bloody fake. Forced to interact with a bunch of ppl when your social skills are low, you're poor & it's draining.

The fact these ppl want to have autonomy of your destiny yet not lift a finger to actually help get rid of why you want to die fucking sickens me; same shit as these ppl supporting the current thing with a banner or some bs yet do NOTHING of substance.

Everything is just fucking dandy in the world so long as they're having a good day, being good with the shitshow is deranged.

I have a good relationship with my psychiatrist: We speak for five minutes a month on the phone and she authorizes the refill of the drugs that don't help my underlying problems but keep me functional enough to work on resolving them in the least satisfactory method for all involved. Easy.
